Year 3 visited the Ragged school in Mile End a few weeks ago. We have learnt about Thomas Barnardo and all the great work he did for the poor children of London and this was his school that he set up! We dressed as Victorians (which made for an ‘interesting’ tube journey) and had a Victorian lesson in the school. Miss Perkins was terrifying and taught us how to write with Copperplate handwriting, some mnemonics for remembering colours of the rainbow and the rules of the Victorian classroom. It was a great trip and Year 3 have never been so well behaved as they were in that classroom!
