Dear Year 5
I am putting together a programme for our play, and I need a summary of the story for the audience. Why not have a go at writing an introduction that begins something like this?…
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is set in the hot Italian city of Verona. It tells the story of…
Make sure you include details of the main characters and events, but don’t give away too much! Can you summarise the play in less than 200 words?
The best summary will get published in the programme along with your name for all to see!
Romeo And Juliet Intro…
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is set in the hot Italian city of Verona. It tells the story of two young lovers called ‘Romeo’ and ‘Juliet’. The problem is that the Montagues and the Capulets are families that have fought in feuds and have shed blood between their fights. Romeo is a women’s boy (like James Bond) and is always flirting with them. This time he is in love with Rosaline but then some other person called Juliet catches his eye but, as we discover, later on in the story this has devastating consequences…. “Action packed! Year five really pulled it out of the bag!” says The Daily Mail. “What a show! Highly recommended for all, young and old,’ says First News. “Amazing! Never seen anything like it! Surely there’ll be some Oscar nominations for these amazing actors!” says The Times.
Great! You might find yourself on our programme Gabriel!
We set this scene in fair Verona where two families, Capulet and Montague, both rich and powerful, have had an ancient quarrel between the masters of the families and their kinsmen.
The Lord and Lady of the Capulet household force their daughter, the fair Juliet, to marry the great Count Paris. Whilst in the other household, young Romeo is in love with the beautiful Rosaline.
Whilst Romeo and his best friends, the placid Benvolio and loyal Mercutio, were out walking, they find a humble servant for the Capulet household. He asked Romeo and his companions to read aloud the guest list for the Capulet’s great masked ball. The lovely Rosaline was on the list! Romeo and his friends sneak into the ball disguised by masks.
Can you guess who Romeo meets at the ball?
This is a story of hatred, murder, betrayal, love, passion, devotion, family, loyalty and of woe.
I hope you enjoy our adaption of Shakespeare’s best play, Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet are set in the hot Italian city of Verona. It tells the story of two arch enemies. One house called the Capulets and the other called the Montagues. They hated each other so much it was not that rare for someone to die. In a fight it was conmon for someone to die at least once a week but the thing is none of them know why they hate each other so much. Do you? But then one day a boy called Romeo from the Montague side fell in love with a girl called Juliet from the Capulet side. On first sight and then something very tragic happened but I am afraid to tell you I am forbidden to tell you the rest. Now lets hear from the Italian Observer “I would rate that play ten out ten”. Now lets hear from the Verona Times “that was the best play I have ever seen in my life ten out of ten.” Now there may be some big prizes for this lot and there may be best actor of the year going!!! But the Italian Mirror says “they are only kids.” The European Independent responded, “they did have loads of help by Natalie Stevenson, Eve Woolway, Rosie Thompson and Laura Williams”.
Thats brilliant
Well done for these entries! Brill!
