Which came first: the chicken or the egg?
For years this question has been debated. It’s an age-old puzzle that’s stumped generations of scientists. Now it’s finally going to be settled once and for all. By Year 5 at EP!
Get blogging…what do you think?
Neither!
I think this because if the egg came first then you would need a chicken to lay it. And if the chicken came first it would come from a egg, so there is no answer!!!
from Leila and Amy
I think that chickens were made by two different prehistoric birds mating and then laying eggs to a different species of birds. I think that the EGG came first.
I don’t think its true because the chick was tiny in the egg and eat all the yolk which made it grow and peck its way to freedom.
I think that the egg came first because my sister said that it was proven by scientists and I am a buddhist and I think that a dinosaur was reincarnated in to an egg that became a chicken.
I think the egg came first because maybe two creatures made an egg and the egg they made might of been a chicken egg and when that chicken egg hatched, the chicken made more of those types of eggs!
I think that the egg came first because you can’t have a chick without an egg because that’s where it has been born like a baby. It’s not like the baby is born first, so I think it’s the egg that comes first.
I believe in evolution, that birds evolved from dinosaurs. This means that a chicken gradually evolved over many generations. However, one of these generations becomes, as we recognise it now, a chicken. So the generation is born from an egg, so the egg comes first. Chickens and chicks have scaly legs, which leads us to the conclusion that chickens are relatives of dinosaurs. Similarly, people have opposable fingers and thumbs like other primates, which is evidence that we are distant relatives of other primates. For the chicken to exist first I think I would have to believe in God. It’s highly unlikely that God exists because we don’t have any evidence to back up the theory of God. The chicken and egg question has one answer, but lots of different views.
I think both of them came first because a egg has a chicken in it and a chick has to lay an egg but it was inside the egg so if the chicken came first then it will be a mammal but if the egg came first then there will be no chicken so that has to be the answer!!
It just has to be, or there can’t be any answer!
Hi there!
I think it was neither because of the same reasons as Amy and Leila.
Plus I think the egg or the chicken came to life with nature.
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I think the chicken came first, because billions of years ago, all different species of animals crawled from the sea, and on to the land. One of them evolved into a chicken, (not as a chicken that you would see today). Then, the chicken lays an egg, and the cockerel fertilises it. In my opinion, the chicken comes first.
I agree with Asa because birds did evolve from dinosaurs so the chicken did come first!!!!!!& I am the best(of course!)
Evolution! That is what happened. The remaining dinosaurs evolved into birds. And how the dinosaurs were created was by something to do with the big bang which made the universe so most people are wrong.
Thank you Asa for being right in my opinion. Kind of.
The parents of the first chicken looked slightly different but still not a chicken. The first chicken was in the egg when it came out so the egg came first.
I think evolution is the answer because some type of dinosaur evolved into a chicken. But a dinosaur would have to lay a egg but, all together i think the egg came first 🙂
I think the egg came before the chicken because the first chicken egg came out of a dinosaur because chickens are related to dinosaurs.
We think that the chicken evolved from dinosaurs because a chicken didn’t just appear out of nowhere, it hatched from an egg after many generations. For example humans used to be apes but from generation to generation they turned into humans!
I think the egg came first because before the chicken evolved into a chicken, there was something else close to a chicken. And when the thing close to a chicken layed an egg, the thing that hatched was a chick!
I think that it was none of them in a way because when life entered our world it began with some volcanos erupting and the ash got into the water and created life then They turned into fish then into four legged animals then etcetera etcetera then a animal layed an EGG and then it turned into a chick/chicken so actually I think it’s an egg.
I think the chicken because birds evolved from dinosaurs.
But I believe in evolution and god
We think that the chicken evolved over many generations so we don’t think think the chicken came first because a chicken didn’t just pop out of know where it evolved through thousands of generations like the ape evolved to humans!
I think two animals came first. They had two mutated eggs which evolved into two chickens. Then, they laid eggs and the cycle continues…
I think that the chicken came first because in the Greek myths, god made all first living things of clay, so when the first two chickens came ( a boy and a girl ) the girl laid eggs and then those eggs became chicks, which became chickens that had more eggs. That just went on for a long time until now!
