Your 100 Word Challenge this week is to write 100 words (no more/no less) based on the prompt:
They ran!
Remember that you can write factual information about running if that’s what comes most naturally to you. You don’t have to use the words ‘they ran’, you just have to be inspired by the prompt!
One day at Eleanor Palmer ,it was cross country. We were getting ready. We walked out of the and crossed the road. We walked and walked and walked and we were at Hampstead heath. First the girls started the race. For year five, they had to do one and a half laps then a full lap. All year five girls had to do the same as the boys. It was going to be hard for year six and year five. For year four and year three was only one whole lap. It was great to have a race for the kids! We had fun!
They ran, they ran, they ran, they ran. I really have to stop repeating myself ’cause if I write they ran, they ran, they ran, they ran, I will get into trouble because my teacher doesn’t understand that my brain keeps repeating itself, repeating itself, repeating itself, repeating itself. It’s because I have a fever, a fever, a fever. I was going to write about the 3 blind mice but unfortunatly that idea just ran away, ran away, ran away. When I show my teacher she will send me to Ms Frood and I will run, will run, will run.
John was in a very poor family. He had to go to the mines every day to keep his family with the slightest amount of food. One day, he came home with no money. John had to work an extra 8 hours in the mines to make up for yesterday so he would mine 16 hours in the mines. As he took the stomach churning ride of the elevator down, he heard the noise of a rumbling and realised they where setting of the TNT… all he could do was run further into the cave… run and run and run…
Our hero was in the desert with his second but last friend James, when they angered the gangsters. They had just found a village full of criminals, but also lots policemen. James had just been walking along when he tripped on a gangster’s full beer bottle. This angered the criminal badly. They ran and ran until they thought they would give in. Jake and James were on the edge of stopping, when they saw a huge, ornate gate being closed. This was the grand way to enter and exit. Jake got out, and James slid under only just making it.
They ran, they ran as fast as they could. Drake had just commited his first robbery at 18 and it was a big one. He had robbed barclays bank. The world seemed to slow. The police were catching up, tranquilizzer darts whistled past his ears, he came to a wall 5 meters high casting a shadow twice that size. Drake and his friend turned around, Drake started to feel dizy but he felt sting in his right arm, the grey sky was the last thing he saw before he fell on the ground tranquillized for the next twenty four hours.
I was running, running and never stopping. The darkness caving in all around me and trying to swallow me whole. Through the night I went, not pausing to catch my breath or even to look at where I was heading. I knew the path ahead. For I know this forest better than the palm of my hand. Yet as I crashed through the undergrowth I felt no joy at being home again only a dark, inky, fear. The very same fear that kept me moving day in day out, and right now I knew I had sealed my own fate.
The horn sounded and all hell broke loose.
Hampstead Heath had suddenly become a whirling blizzard of 10 year old boys. Your heart gone from gently thumping in your chest to a raging fire, trying to burn up the rest of your body. As you reach the first bend, your breath is rasping, creating a cloud of mist appearing from your dry mouth. All inspiration, tips and training drained from your mind, only the mission impossible theme tune stuck in your head, and as you pass the finish line, a sense of victory infects your mind… You just completed the cross country.
We walked to Heath from school, the year sixes with year 3 the year fives had pairs with year fours.
When we got to the heath, first the year 4 girls did one lap, then the year 4 boys did one lap, then the year three girls did one lap, then the year three boys did one lap.
Finally it was the year fives’ turn – the girls first did one and a half laps, afterwards the boys did one and a half laps. The year six girls and then boys did two laps.
As the klaxon sounded I forgot the entire pep talk. There was no jogging slowly to give me energy later on. There was no way through the seething, writhing mass of people blocking my way. A girl behind me fell and I almost looked back when I remembered that this was not the time for kindness. We had just started the hill when the blood started to flow. A person on my left was taken out with a cry of pain as she was pushed into a holly bush. A few careless people had already made allies and were holding hands. I laughed at their ignorance. And ran. I wasn’t first to the cornucopia but I still had a good pick of weapons.
Two young brothers called Anthony and William had just received their weekly allowance of £2.50 and were now running to their local sweet shop as fast and speedily as their pale and bruised legs would carry them. As soon as they reached the doorway, both boys raced forward and nearly got jammed because they were so keen to get to their sugary goods! Anthony chose some liquorice bulls eyes, a large gobstopper and a sherbet dib dab. William picked some strawberry bon bons, a lemon whistling lolly and packet of tropical jawbreakers. They ran back homeward. What a fab feast!
It all started one sinister evening when me and my friend Tyson were out in Redwood Forrest. We were on a camping trip, it was just the two of us. It was a clear, windy night and the trees appeared to be guarding the Forrest swaying swiftly from side to side. But guarding it from what? I had a hunch that something was watching us, something that sent a chill down my spine. I could feel its presence in the air. I searched through the trees, and then I saw it! It’s red eyes caught mine, we turned and ran!
They ran as fast as they could and jumped over some broken up trees. Jake was telling Emily to hurry up, through all those leaves and dried up mud they got there. WAIT!!! Why were they running in the first place? I thought you might say that, well his the real story. Mum and Dad rushed in shouted “GO QUICK GO!!” They were running then they stopped running and that’s where we’re up too. Jake wanted to know what was going on, Emily knew and told him straight away. Jake had one tear coming down his face. Then a scream…..
Even if you don’t run fast you will burn at least ten calories per minute, so if you run for twenty three minutes you have burnt as many calories as there are in half a bar of lint chocolate!
Athletes dressed in red are more likely to win events than athletes wearing any other colour, because the colour red makes you fired up.
The fastest mile ever run was by a man called Hitcham El Guerrouj, in 3:43:13 in 1999.
12 of the world’s top-20 distance runners are members of the Kalenjin tribe of northwest Kenya.
They ran, they ran,
They ran past the van,
They ran up the hill,
They ran to the man,
They ran through the city,
They ran through the town,
They ran past a circus
And ran past a clown.
They ran across the river,
They ran to the shore,
They ran up the beach
Until their feet got sore.
They ran into caves,
They ran underground,
They ran through dark tunnels
To get back to the town.
They ran to their houses,
They ran to the sink,
They turned on the tap
And had a long drink.
They ran, dirt flecked their clothes and branches whipped at their faces. Stumbling on roots, slipping in the mud and hitting into each other they tumbled and rolled down the hill. Their legs were aching, they couldn’t breathe and only by forcing themselves and concentrating everything on it could they carry on. The thundering of everybody’s feet filled their ears like a thousand drums never stopping just hammering on. The sun was hammering down on their backs, they needed a drink and it was becoming hard to see as the sweat poured down their faces into their eyes.
One day a boy called JOE awoke to a hot summer day but Joe had two things on his mind:
What was the time?
Think of a way to not do the race.
Then like a fire bolt he was downstairs eating breakfast and ready for THE RUN.Two minutes later mum had got him into the car then a second later the race had started.
