The lights were off. It was suddenly very, very dark. We were 500m below sea level. The only lights were sea creatures and most of them were not that bright. Then we saw a huge creature coming, it was a sperm whale, it went off into the darkness. An angler fish swan by, then a goblin shark. The light were turned on again, all the creatures swam away. We turned the lights back off. More creatures swam by. Then we tried to turn the lights back on but it only flickered and turned off, we went back to the surface.
When the powercut hit the whole family was having dinner. Maya screamed, mum groaned and dad attempted to walk to the lightswitch, got halfway there and tripped over the cat. I decided to get out my ladybird wind up torch to see what was going on.(and to see the stupid position dad was in)
But Maya snatched it out of my hand ,flicked it on ,ran towards the BURGLER (dad didn’t trip after all)and slapped him right across the face. The guy doubled up as she punched him in the nose again and again and all I got to do is call the police.
Once a young boy named Tommy was walking through the city and he saw a house with an open door. He went in feeling guilty but also excited. What was in here? He turned on the lights and explored the house. When he went into a room upstairs he heard the door close and after a few seconds the light turned off. Tommy went back down the stairs. The lights were off downstairs as well and the doors were shut. Tommy ran in darkness to the front door and tried to open it. Luckily the door was unlocked. He fled.
It was a stormy evening when I squeaked the devilish cemetery gate open. Just like every other evening I winced as it slowly creaked open. This was the worst part of the journey home. As I crept down the stairs of the tomb I knew I had to keep walking down the winding staircase. But as I reached the last step I sensed that something was wrong. I was cold with fear but it was too late too turn back. I opened the door to the passage, stepped in and as I did that I was plunged into total darkness…
Once there was a cave that man had enter but no man had ever returned .A giant lived in this dark, damp, gloomy, dismal and mysterious cave but the giant called his dark, damp, gloomy, dismal and mysterious cave home. The people did not like this giant for the giant was evil; he ate a sheep for breakfast, a cow for lunch and a person for supper and a chicken for a snack. Not even the best troops could kill him and already he had eaten three kings. Not many people see him, as he is lives in his cave.
when the lights go off from a 5 year old’s perspective:
The lights were off. No light, just dark.
The moon, blocking the sun
Every life asleep, even those under bark
Does everything sleep? The question’s unknown.
When light is off does everything stop?
Even the zoo keepers, in the zoo shop?
And why do parents stay up so late, when all they say is
“give me a break?”
Will the sun ever run out of light? Then would light be out
forever?
When the lights go out, and I’m asleep what’s happening,
out on the street?
Could people see, even without light? I don’t know
but I know my mind’s taking flight….. goodnight.
I was sitting at home watching TV, my mum was texting on her phone and my dad was reading the newspaper, drinking coffee. All of a sudden there was a smash of a mug (my dad’s coffee mug) and all the lights went out. Then I heard the sound of a low muttering voice and then a cry of agony. I turned off the TV and crept into the kitchen only to see my parents dead on the floor and a machete held at my throat. The figure pressed harder into my neck until my head spillled onto the floor…
I woke up, I was in an alleyway filled with red lights; there was a sound coming from the trash cans, it was rats, they were chewing on a skull. Suddenly there was laughter behind me. There was a man there standing in a black tuxedo and top hat with a scarred eye. Then, we weren’t in the alleyway anymore, we were in stone tombs! There was more laughing and from behind me a man came out in a dirty costume carrying a shovel. At that moment I saw an empty coffin with my name on it, then it shut.
A vampire woke from its velvet red coffin and it was pitch black. He flew out the window and the bats followed after. One day a little girl, walked in to the tomb and she found the coffin, she felt extremely tired so she lay in it. She fell to sleep, when she woke a century later, the lid wouldn’t open! She finally managed to escape. Then she turned the light on, she searched the room from top to toe, there were all types of horrifying things. Suddenly she heard a sucking noise from out side… IT WAS A VAMPIRE!!!
The maths lesson had just ended and Miss Stevenson left the classroom to speak to Linda. Suddenly the whole class went CRAZY, with Harry jumping from table to table, Subeer singing “Everybody Dance Now” and Josh cartwheeling across the room. The lights started to turn on and off in time to the music. While the lights were off Miss Stevenson walked back in and screamed “ JERRY!!! STOP THAT AT ONCE”. As if someone had been shot the class fell into silence.
This is, of course, an imaginary incident. This would obviously never happen in the Year 5 classroom!
THE LIGHTS WERE OFF!
The lights were off and I don’t know what to do.
Should I stay in bed with my dog not fed and
My cat that needs the loo?
The lights were off and I’m really very stressed.
I need to eat and wash my feet and
Start to get myself dressed.
The lights were off, I take a big deep breath
I’m all alone in my cold home and
Thinking about death.
It’s dull and dark and dingy, I wish that I could see
But I’m blind and all I have
Is my dog for company.
The lights went out it was silent and then a scream!!!

The lights were off, there was nothing we could do about it since the hurricane that had passed over and ripped out all the main electricity wires out. Our roof was gone for about an hour now. The rain was starting to come in so I hugged my dad so hard, tears were trickling down my eyes. Questions racing through my mind We’re going to be okay? Suddenly a creaking sound started, dad screamed, ‘get out!’, the house was giving way. Just out, it collapsed. Someone raced towards us, shouting the storm was heading to Ireland, where my grandma lives…
She took a deep breath, vowing that she would go through with it, not run and scream like she did the last time. Hesitantly, she opened the door. Much to her surprise, the lights were off. The last times she had tried to conquer her fear of her spine-chilling attic, the dusty old light had always been on – blinking – but on. Rats scuttled past her feet. She shuddered with fear. She shrieked as cobwebs brushed past her face. Nevertheless, she carried on. She must spend a full five minutes in order to establish the fact that she was not scared.

When the lights were off
The mouse squeaks
The floor board creeks
When the lights were off
The owl hoots
The bandicoot scoots
When the lights were off
The fox feasts
On mini beasts
When the lights were off
The child sleeps
Under warm sheets
When the lights were off
The cricket clicks
As the clock ticks
When the light were off
The bats fly
As the babies cry
When the light were off
The rattle snake hisses
When mummy’s give kisses
When the lights were off
The moon shines bright
Let us say goodnight

Creep-tastic, Sawdah! Such a well-written passage with some excellent adverbials.
