Whole School Newsletter Autumn 2025 Week 3
Keeping it EP this week…
It was wonderful to see so many parents join us today for Stay and Play to take part in maths games with the children. Maths games are an important part of maths teaching at EP - fantastic for number fluency, risk-taking, building confidence and for practice in a playful, engaging way. We hope you’ve picked up some fun ideas to take home!
Children in upper juniors put their maths skills to the test in a national maths competition called the Primary Maths Challenge. This is an exacting, problem-solving maths paper - designed to make children think outside of the box, it’s great for developing reasoning skills. We’re delighted that so many partcipated, with a special mention to our 17 award winners!
Football Champions!
Huge congratulations to our teams who triumphed again this week and have won both the girls and boys CSSA North Leagues. They have shown such tenacity, teamwork and fair play in the process. We must also mention that EP girls have not lost a single league game in 3 years - amazing!
Well done to our amazing teams and of course to coaches Martin, Sophie and Jessie. With big thanks to families who have come to show support and cheer them on. Children keep training on Tuesdays for league finals after half term.
More football as the boys Y5 vs.Y6 rivals match finally took place (even though it rained yet again!), with Y6 grabbing a close 5-4 victory.
The Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment (OAE) delivered a fantastic workshop for Years 1 and 2, where children enjoyed learning about the trumpet and bassoon and singing together in preparation for a future performance! The OAE come back to visit Early Years next week.
Our gardener Bernie has been joined by a brilliant garden group from Juniors over recent weeks. They have been working on a project to clear a corner of the garden, dismantling the tumbledown structure and redesigning the area for a new insect hotel. The challenge was to reuse existing building materials and find natural materials to use in the project. The before and after photos are on the website - quite a transformation!

Bird Watching

We’ve made simple birdfeeders to attract more birds to our patch - guide linked if children want to try making these at home.
World Book Day - Thursday 5th March
Thursday 5th March is World Book Day! There will be lots of fun events going on in school and, as is traditional, children and grown ups are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. This is optional and certainly not a competition! There will be a special 'Book Giveaway' from 3:15pm in the upper area of the playground where children can take home a second-hand book to keep.
After half-term some parents have kindly offered to host a costume-swap in the upper playground. The exact details are to follow, but if you have an outgrown/ unwanted costume or props (think wands, wigs or wizard hats!) please hang onto to bring to the swap!
Imagine Festival in Half-Term
The Southbank Centre host a whole series of shows, workshops and activities during half-term Imagine Festival for children aged 0-11. Some are ticketed and some free - fun and creativity to be had, whatever February weather brings!
