Yeast is such a fascinating micro-organism…we had heard all about its uses in bread-making but we wanted to explore how it would react when mixed with sugar and water!
We recorded our predictions and set up an experiment using a balloon to see if we would notice any changes. We were amazed by the results! The balloons inflated rapidly, which we learnt is due to the yeast’s respiration and reproduction – which produces carbon dioxide, thus inflating the balloon!
Afterwards, we unleashed our balloons from the Tower in the playground – partly to avoid mess in our classroom, but mostly for fun!
