Year 5 had a music workshop with two musicians from the OAE ( Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment) who played a double bass (Cecelia) and a bassoon (Zoe)
We were preparing for an interactive concert at Acland Burghley in which the OAE orchestra will be playing and we will be doing some body percussion and singing songs to be conducted by James Redwood who wrote this music especially for Camden children.
The theme of the piece is Climate Change and Pollution, particularly the ‘Great Pacific Garbage Patch’ (which is currently 1.6 million square kilometres wide!)The songs stress the importance of finding solutions to the problem of pollution that we all face on Planet Earth.
The musicians also found time to play their instruments to Nursery and Reception which they happily did. We learned all about the low sounds on the double bass and also saw how Zoe’s bassoon was put together and played with a reed which on its own sounded like a duck quacking!
We sang a song accompanied by the double bass and added lots of actions.
All the children showed fantastic listening skills and lots of curiosity asking Zoe and Cecelia questions about their instruments.
