We had a very adventurous trip to the London Fire Brigade Museum on Wednesday 1st March 2017.
The storyteller took us on a journey into London at the time of the Great Fire – Sunday 2nd September 1666 – where we rang bells to warn the inhabitants and collected water from the River Thames in an attempt to put out the fire! We learnt some new facts too, like it took five days for the pavements to cool down!
It was also wonderful to hear all about the different fire engines – from hand-drawn pumps to the motorised engines we see on our streets today!
We then got to try out different Fireman outfits from the present period to one that they wore a long time ago! We decided that the modern version is a lot safer – you can even spot it in the dark!
So much to take in – we can’t wait to write a recount tomorrow!!
