We had a magical time at the Charles Dickens Museum today – it was like being transported back in time!
Highlights included –
- the desk where Dickens wrote Great Expectations
- the actual bars from the debtors’ jail his father was sent to
- the only surviving set of Dickens’s clothes!
- his bedroom, including commode chair and hip bath.
The house is beautifully decorated for the festive season – complete with a Dickensian Christmas dinner laid in the dining room.
After exploring the house, we read extracts from A Christmas Carol and created our own characters…using quills and ink! We can’t wait to study A Christmas Carol later this term.
