Year 6 explored the question “What if humans didn’t have thumbs?”, trying to do a variety of everyday activities without using their thumbs! We really struggled to blow up a balloon and tie it, but picking up a coin was a little easier…
We thought about how man-made objects had been designed for humans with thumbs, and that if we didn’t have thumbs then the objects would have been designed differently. We also thought about how the fact that humans do have thumbs is a useful adaptation, as it gives us the ability to preform more precise actions.
