We had a fantastic workshop on Hampstead Heath with Ms Yaffe! Year 3 learnt about the properties of different soils and then investigated which ones were the most malleable and permeable.
We tested London clay, bagshot sand and humus (not the dip!) by moulding them and then seeing how much water could filter through each one. As we proved that clay was the most impermeable, we used that to construct dams in a model river.
There was so much great scientific thinking and we built on our geography topic as we explored the various layers that make up the earth beneath our feet on Hampstead Heath. A great day – and no rain!
