In groups, we built papier-mâché volcanoes using a water bottle and some newspaper. We then painted them to replicate volcanoes from around the globe. Following on from our science investigation, we used bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and red food colouring to replicate the lava and exploded our volcanoes! It was so much fun!
- First you scrunch up newspaper around a plastic bottle to create the main volcano shape.
- Then using glue and water you use newspaper to create a solid papier-mâché shape.
- Make sure you have covered the whole bottle!
- After painting your volcano, pour vinegar into the bottle inside.
- Then, using a funnel, pour in bicarbonate of soda into the bottle and watch as the lava begins to flow!
- ERUPTION!
