Fact: did you know that Big Ben isn’t actually called Big Ben, it’s called the Elizabeth Tower named after Elizabeth the First and the bell inside the tower is actually called Big Ben.

The Houses of Parliament trip was really interesting because we learnt lots of new facts like, did you know that in the olden days only men were allowed in the House of Lords! Every year the Queen has an ermine cloak on her dress but the election today was so short notice that she hasn’t got time to have a new cloak made so this year she’s just going to have to wear a normal dress!

The trip to The Houses of Parliament was amazing , it was huge and very beautiful – there was a story for almost every room! Did you know that the first room has a sort of shrine for the Suffragettes that lights up and it’s not powered by electricity it is actually powered by the river Thames! Another fact is that Big Ben is actually the name of the bell not the tower! AND did you know that the green room (House of Lords) has plaques that commemorate MPs who died.

On Wednesday 7th of June we went to the Houses of Parliament. First we went to the House of lords and I saw where the Queen sits and most of it is made out of gold. After we went to the House of Commons. It wasn’t as fancy as the other one but they were both really small. I touched the toe of the statue of Winston Churchill and I saw some gold on it. I really enjoyed this trip, I really want to go again.

My favorite part of the trip is that you can’t sit on the chairs in the House of Commons and Lords or you will get kicked out because you are not a member of Parliament. Did you know that on top of the doors there is a light that is powered by the the Thames and if the tide is high it lights up and if it’s low it turns off?

In the Houses of Parliament I learnt that before people went into the House of Commons, they touched the toe of Winston Churchill for good luck. I really liked the trip. I especially enjoyed when we saw the Queen’s throne which was so shiny and full of gold.

Exactly the throne was amazing and the frame around it was so strong
On the 7th of June we went to the Houses of Parliament, which was such a cool trip and for most of us this was a once in a life time opportunity. We had so much fun and found out lots of new things about Parliament, for example… in the House of Lords, they put up a huge glass window at the top because once, someone threw a bag of flour down! In both rooms there is a rule that you can not sit on the green and red chairs, only hover near them, but I think some people sat down secretly…
Elodie
Exactly 6 people in my group sat on the seats by accident and got told off 🙂
Uh oh…don’t tell me!
My experience of the Palace of Westminster was good and I learnt so many new facts. Like how the curtains in the House of Lords is there because if they could look up they would see the woman’s thigh or more and they also used to only let men sit in the House of Lords.

The trip was fun and I enjoyed it very much. We learned a lot of interesting things. We saw the Queen’s seat and it was made of 35 carat gold! We weren’t allowed to sit on the seats in the House of Commons or the House of Lords because it was disrespectful.

Yesterday was super exciting and interesting, I can’t believe all the crazy traditions that happen like the red lines on the floor of the House of Commons to make sure the MPs didn’t stab each other with their swords! We were all desperate to sit down in the House of Commons and the House of Lords but it’s against the law! We learnt so much and really enjoyed this once in a lifetime opportunity!

We found out so many facts at the Houses of Parliament! Did you know that Big Ben is actually called Elizabeth Tower and the bell in the tower is called Big Ben? Did you know that Margaret Thatcher was the first and only elected woman Prime Minister?
Macey
I loved going to the Houses of Parliament! Everything was gilded in the House of Lords, however in the House of Commons, it was just made of stone. Outside the entrance is a statue of Winston Churchill, and politicians rub the toe for good luck. Did you know that there is a massive glass screen in the House of Commons covering the public gallery to protect the prime minister during debates?
Sean
My fun fact is that during elections the Queen is not allowed to vote because she must have a neutral opinion of the parties. I was surprised how big the Houses of Parliament was and it was amazing to visit the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Will.
Hey I know I’m a bit late but it was a fun trip and you’re only allowed to hover over the green and red chairs. Also there where statues that gave luck to those who rubbed its foot.
