As we discussed this week, some people believe that the moon landing in 1969 (as well as other missions) was not real but faked by NASA and the US government.
There are a number of reasons for these conspiracy theories and this week for homework you are finding out about what they are. When you have done this and started to form your own opinion, I would love you to post your ideas on the blog!
Will we all agree, or is there a debate to be had?!
I don’t know what to think because my research showed me potential proof that it was a hoax, but also proof of why it was real. I want to believe it was real but there is always a spark of doubt in the back of my head.
I think the astronauts did not go to the moon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:/
Maybe people photoshopped the footage of the moon landing to set people thinking if they should believe it or not and therefore taking away Armstrong’s glory at being the first man to walk on the moon.
I think the moon landing was real, and some people made it look like it was fake by using photoshop on some famous pictures of the moon landing. Im still a bit unsure though!
We think that the moon landing is real, but most of the pictures were taken in a studio after the moon landing. We think this because, the first colour pictures were take on the Apollo 14 flight, and some of the photos from the Apollo 11 were in colour .
they have fake photos before… like on Iwo Jima here’s a link. http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/photo_database/image/raising_the_flag_on_iwo_jima/
I think it was real because if they didn’t go to the moon then how could the flag be there? Also, it probably would have cost too much to send a fake rocket into space and design it to land itself.
The theory that says you can see a man filming it in the background is strange because of cause someone have to be filming for people to watch it on their TVs. If the moon landing was faked and done in a studio then how could they have created the effect of endless space stretching off into the distance?
Did man land on the Moon? I believe the answer is: yes!
There are lots of conspiracy theories claiming that it was all a hoax, and that it was all filmed in a televisions studio, probably in Hollywood.
Some people say that the American flag was waving which can’t happen in space.
Others say that there are no stars in the pictures of the landing craft Apollo 11.
Others argue that there is no crater where the spacecraft landed on the Moon.
But I say these people are wrong!
The flag could have been touched by an astronaut which made the ripples happen.
The stars were too far away to be seen.
The Moon’s surface is rock-hard!
So please stop questioning one of mankind’s greatest achievements, and get a life (on Earth)!
Jack
There are several different reasons why people think the first man on the moon was fake for example: in the picture of an astronaut in the reflection of his helmet there is another astronaut, but in the top right corner there is a mysterious object which people think is a spotlight and it could not be powered without electricity. Also in another photo it looks like there is a shadow in two different directions which is not possible unless there were two suns, which there aren’t. Of course there are lots of other reasons why it could be a hoax and after reading lots of different perspectives it looks like the hoax could be true, however we will never know the full truth due to Neil Armstrong’s death.
By Flo 🙂
But there was over 4,000 people involved with the moon landing, and that many people wouldn’t have been able not to tell anyone that the moon landing was a hoax
It’s generating lots of discussion! Jack you obviously feel very strongly! Interesting idea from Benny and Olly which is somewhat of a compromise.
It’s great to read all your comments…keep them coming…
I think the moon landing was real because if you wave a flag on the moon and put it in the ground, as there is zero gravity, it should stay waving.
Also the photographs were probably photoshopped back at NASA to lighten shadowy areas and improve the quality of the final image.
Would America risk lying to the world about one of the most important moments in human history?
From doing research and reading several theories from peoples opinions of what happened, it’s not easy to decide on which I agree with. However, such evidence brought back makes me believe that the moon walk was performed and was true. Not certain though! 🙂
I agree with Nina as I have read both arguments and they are both really persuasive. I think some strong arguments for the hoax conspiracy is that NASA had said that two pictures with exactly the same background were taken miles apart and that on a rock on the moons surface the letter “c” has seemed to be engraved on it as a prop might do. People who are for the landing have argued that 400,000 people would have been involved in it and how would they all have kept it quiet. They also say that the moon rock collected on the Apollo missions have been proved to be not from this planet. All in all I really don’t know!! Ben 🙂
I believe the moon landings were a hoax. Russia were very close to sending man to the moon and America couldn’t let that happen so they staged their own moon landing in order to beat them. If the lunar module had landed how comes there isn’t a visible blast crater underneath the module. Also the surface of the moon is covered in a very fine dust, and even this doesn’t seem to have been displaced in the photographs they show us as evidence.
Loving seeing you getting involved PB! I know how strongly you feel about this one!
Another reason I consider the landing on the moon to be a hoax is that in all photographs and video taken from the moon there are no stars. As there are no clouds on the moon the stars would appear more visible and a lot brighter, yet all we see is a black sky. I think NASA left the sky black because as there are millions of stars there is no way they could have added all the stars accurately so safer to not put in any.
Ms Foster I don’t have my home work can I do something!
Didn’t you pick it up? Remind me tomorrow and I can give you a copy! For Literacy homework, I asked you to think about the pros and cons of space tourism, so you could get thinking about that! We will be discussing it more tomorrow!
I met Buzz Aldrin at an event in the late 1990’s. He delivered a presentation where he shared photo’s from his ‘private collection’! I am still not convinced that they landed on the moon though! Fantastic arguments for and against Y6 and PB!
