We have been trying different experiments exploring colour this week in Reception. We’d like you to tell us which bits you enjoyed and why you liked them.
I enjoyed when the colour of the skittles came off. The colours mixed up and made pink and I liked that.
We put baking soda and colours on a plate and it made the plate very colourful. I liked looking at all the different colours.
We put roses in coloured water. I chose very dark purple water. Some of the roses died. My rose got smaller.
I liked the pink pen on the white paper. When I put the water on the pen it did smudge.
I liked the red pen on the white paper. When I put the water on the pen it did smudge.
We had great fun recreating a few experiments at home, Amit loved putting smarties into water, and we looked at the difference of:
How quickly the colour dissolves in cold water versus warm
The amount of colour seen if you put a small amount of water versus a lot
That some colours were better at dissolving and making nice coloured water eg red versus blue
Good fun thank you!
I liked when I was making a mess of vinegar. I was doing lots of things with lots of colours. The orange vinegar turned to purple.
I made a mess. It was vinegar and flour. I liked my mess because it fizzed up. I learnt that vinegar fizzes when you mix it up with flour.
I liked all the experiments, best was the sweeties in water because I loved it, although the sweeties didn’t taste the same.
I really liked the sweeties in water experiment because it was so, so beautiful. There was pink and blue and yellow. There was lots of colour coming out and they mixed up.
Sonja
I love all your comments Reception. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s happened to the roses over the weekend. I wonder if anything will have changed…
I made handprints in lots of different colours. I liked getting my hands dirty. Helen said they were very messy. When I mixed the colours they went purply, green and brown.
I liked the experiment with bicarbonate of soda best because you could add all the colours, whichever colours you liked. You added vinegar and it went really fizzy. I wish I could drink it! Can I?
I think it might make your tummy start fizzing just like the vinegar and bicarbonate of soda Maxi. You might end up like Grandpa in the Dr Dog story!
My best colour experiments of the week were the sweets in water and colour hand prints because i put all the sweets into the water until it looked like a rainbow. For my coloured hand prints i used four different colours they were orange, pink, yellow and red. I enjoyed creating the yellow hand print the most because it’s my favorite colour.
My favourite was putting the flowers in the colourful water. Is the top of the petals is going to change colour? Will the thorns change colour too?
The sweet colour went into the water and the water went the same colour — I did blue and red and green.
i enjoyed the sweeties because i loved squeezing the pipettes with paint in them. We put water over the sweeties first to get the colour up. you let go and you squeeze it again and its fun and we colour mixed.
I really liked when the sweeties all changed different colours especially from blue and purple in the sweeties and water experiment. I also liked the roses in coloured water experiment and I am looking forward to see if the roses change colour.
I like when the flowers started to change colour. We put purple colour in the water and the petals turned purple. And when the water was orange the flower turned orange.
This was my favourite experiment .
I liked the skittles experiment because I like colours and because they bumped into each other and made brown. I liked it when Helen gave us some sweeties to eat. Tawana
I really liked when the smarties went in lines because they looked like a rainbow.
Wait till tomorrow Reception – we’ve got some more colours to mix up!
I liked putting the Skittles and Smarties in water and seeing the colour come off. I love the Skittles the most! And pink and red were good.
i liked doing the fizzy colours, and the smarties.
because the colours came of the sweets and they mixed in the water. i liked the fizzy colours too, because the flour was fizzy.
i like doing everything in class!
I had great fun recreating a few experiments at home, I loved putting smarties into water, and we looked at the difference of:
The colour of the smarties dissolved quicker with warm water
You can see more colour in little amount of water
Red was better than blue at dissolving
I like it when we put the powder in vinegar and it fizzed, I also liked it when the colour’s of the skittles came off .
I really enjoyed the experiments im going to do my own at home with my science kit.
I liked the most how the colours mixed one with the other and how the skittles dissolved. I like most pink but also red, orange and green. It was really fun!
When I put the sweeties in the water they made a rainbow, red was my favourite. I liked the fizzy colours, they fizzed and fizzed and never stopped.
Dotty
I enjoyed when we put sweeties in the plate with warm water.I also enjoyed the hand print because there was so much colours and i liked getting my hands messy !!!!!
I liked the experiment with the skittles because they made colours like a rainbow. Jannath and Sonja’s plate of bicarbonate of soda went fizzier than everyone else’s plate which was fantastic! I ate a skittle.
I enjoyed putting the flowers in the coloured water and I also liked the experiment where we put sweeties in the water to make rainbow colours.
I liked it best, when it went pink! I liked the Skittles because they changed and the colour went off them. I saw pink. I did handprints and they turned purple.
