I hope you love having chicks in class and are watching them on the live chickcam?!

Firstly I would be quiet near them. I would also hold them very gently.
The chicks are very cute and cuddly.
Hi Jess,
Thanks for your comment. Yes they are very cute and cuddly! How have they changed since they hatched?
Maybe we could make a maze so the chicks can have a race in the maze.
Hi Georgia,
That’s a great idea! I think the chicks would enjoy racing through a maze!
Could we make them a little house? Perhaps from cardboard? Inside I would put bedding in case they needed to sleep. I would put feathers inside to make it snuggly.
Hi Cosmo,
What a lovely idea! It would be great if you could bring a small box in on Monday – I have lots of feathers!
I think we should make an obstacle course to make the chicks happy with small jumps and other things. The chicks are cute and fluffy. My cats would chase the chicks everywhere if they came to the school!!
Hi Tom,
The obstacle course is an excellent idea! We could get some blocks from Reception. What else would we need?
I bet your cat would chase the chicks!!
The chicks are cute! They keep on cheeping! Some are brown and some are yellow. Let’s make a chick playground!
Hi Jed,
Yes – they are SO cute! Great observations – can you describe their legs and feet too?
We will definitely make a chick playground!
Make an adventure playground for the chicks. I think it would be very nice for them to have a little fun!
Hi Clemmie,
I agree – we all love playtime!! I think the chicks would love to run around, climb and jump!
What should we put in the adventure playground?
We could take the chicks outside to play when it’s warm and sunny.
Hi Sabry,
Yes – that’s a great idea! Perhaps we could see how they react to different environments – like the Bog garden and the Island.
Where would we take them first?
A little staircase going to a house in a corner of their cage so that they feel safe and cosy. When they want a sleep, they can just go up there.
Hi Lara,
What a wonderful idea. You will love the chicks when you meet them – and they can’t wait to meet you!
Get better soon!!
The obstacle course needs different paths with a long exit, a medium exit and a short exit so that they can figure out in their head which way they should go. But they might be sad if they get the long exit.
Tom – this is a great idea!
If you have time perhaps you could draw your design?
Ok
I’ve drawn the obstacle course at 10 to 9 this morning and tomorrow I will definitely bring it into school
Great! I look forward to seeing your obstacle plan – and I’m sure the chicks will be thrilled too!
We could make a sports day field for the chicks so they could run around – with lots of water to drink in case they get thirsty, and some food for when they get hungry!
Hi Millie,
I love the idea of a chicks sports day! We will definitely need to ensure they have access to water and food!
Can you plan some activities for the chicks sports day?
We could make a winner’s trophy for the winning chick
We will definitely need a trophy!!
we will make a chicken maze for the chicks and they will need to get their food at the finish. (shall we set some traps?)
Hi Max,
A maze with food at the end is a great idea!
I’m not so sure about the traps – although having a few dead ends in the maze would be really good!
but they need to be gentle traps!
Gentle traps sound perfect!!
Could you design one?
I think we could make a toilet for the chicks so that they don’t have accidents. We will weave some sticks like a birds nest. We will get some ironmongers to make some gas cylinders to put in to, so that they don’t poo in are hands.
Hi Diarmaid,
A lot of ideas here!!
I especially like the idea of a toilet for the chicks – they are prone to accidents!! Although Miss Frood has suggested we play poo Bingo tomorrow!! It involves a large 100 square and the chicks racing around!! 😉
The chicks are very snuggly. We should let them have a run around during our play time so they can have more fun, instead of being all squeezed up in their house.
They are all very delicate and I hope that they will take care of their house and be nice to each other.
I don’t want anything to happen to those chickies. I really like them a lot. My dad wants to get a cat to protect them. I don’t think it is a good idea. Cats eat chicks! and those chicks are very important.
Hi Eugenie,
You made some excellent points! I agree with you – the chicks are very important and we need to look after them.
Should we let them run around the classroom at playtime or the bog garden?
I love the chicks and to make them happy I would make them a cosy bed where they can sleep in. I would also let them run free in the classroom so they can play with the Year 1 Children.
Hi Lila,
Thanks for your message. I am so please you are enjoying the chicks!
I think we definitely need more time to play with the chicks – it’s top of my list for Monday!!
We could make a ball made out of food for them so they could peck it. And then they wouldn’t need their feeding bowl.
Hi Bay,
This is a really lovely idea!
What could we mix with the chicken feed to make it sticky?
I think the boy chicks are brown and the girl chicks are yellow. They are all very furry and they cheep and chirp loudly. We could make zoo for the chicks to live in.
Hi Kara,
Yes – they are so noisy!! I love the idea of a chick zoo.
Are there any other animals that could join them?
I’m going to give them a nice clean home.
Hi Zion,
This is a great idea! Hopefully that would stop the smell!! 😉
I will make sure they have fresh food and water.
Another great idea – we wouldn’t want them to go hungry or thirsty!
I would like to plant a nice tree, to put lots of chicken nests with a slide, for the cute chicks have lots of fun :).
Hi Tomas,
Your ‘chick tree’ idea is great!
Perhaps we should ask Miss Frood if we could keep a few of the chicks in Eleanor Palmer!
I will make sure the chicks stay nice and warm and that we are nice to them so they are nice to us. We made a playground for them and so I want them to have fun on it.
Hi Malachy,
Good point – treat them as we would like to be treated!
Yes – your playgrounds were amazing!
I would like to keep the chicks at school for a bit longer. We could build a home with an outdoor play area and we could watch them grow. I have loved holding the chicks in my hands, they are so soft and fluffy.
Hi Jessica,
This is a very good argument for keeping the chicks!
Maybe we should write persuasive letters to Miss Frood?
Why don’t we make clothes for the chicks so they will be cossy. Let’s stroke them gently so that they will be happy !
Hi Elizabeth,
I love the idea of chick clothes!
Could you design them a dress or waistcoat?
We could make a playground for the chicks and make a trampoline in the playground.
For the sports day we could make the chicks walk really fast and then flap their wings together, then they could have a jumping competition on the trampoline and see who wins.
These are excellent ideas Amelia.
I think the chicks would love to bounce on a trampoline!
I think the chicks could have a chick disco with a disco ball to peck, and some chirping and cheeping music to dance to. I don’t think they would like Opera because its too loud. And they might be scared of “What does the fox say?”. Maybe we could record them chirping and make some nice gentle chirpy chill-out music for the chicks.
Hi Alex,
I love the idea of a chick disco!
Perhaps we should speak to Laura about creating a chick chill-out track!
They are cute and cuddly. I wish I could keep them
Hi Isaac,
Yes – they were so lovely! I wanted to keep one too.
Perhaps we need an Eleanor Palmer chicken house?
we could record the chicks chirping so we could remember them.
Good idea – we should have recorded them!!
Although – perhaps we could mimic them?
The chicks are so cute! I really wanted to bring the chick in my house! I like the chicks and I felt really sad when they left.
Hi Belle,
I also felt sad when they left!! They were very cute!I think they liked Year 1 a lot!!
I miss the chics.
