Last night Miss West saw a poem written up at Tufnell Park Underground Station which made her smile (see photo).
Follow the link to the poem and there is also the chance to watch a video version of it: http://www.poetry4kids.com/poem-438.html#.UmFXCNKsgyo
For this week’s 5 Sentence Challenge, I want to know what 5 things you would like to teach an animal to do and why?
Ready, set… WRITE!
P.S. A gold star goes to the first one to spot a spelling mistake in the photograph! Ask an adult to help you look.
Advice is spelt wrong. I liked it, but I wouldn’t call it service information! Also, “October” isn’t a date because it needs a number too. This poem makes me glad not to have any pets, but I’m glad it didn’t mention Dalmatian dogs because I want one of them. The poem must be in a station because I recognise the Underground sign.
My mum helped me spot that advice has a c not a s.
I would like to teach a puppy to play football with me, because it would be so funny. I would also like to teach my Venus fly trap to catch wasps so they can’t sting me. I would teach little tigers to do a hand stands, it would be clever and funny to see them showing off. I would teach a sperm whale to give me a ride, so I can go to the deep sea depths. Lastly, I would teach an Orca to do a header with me.
I would like to teach a gorilla to do Kung fu so it could defend me. I would like to teach a panda Pokemon skills so it could play with me. I would like to teach a lion cub to cuddle me because it is so furry. I would teach a king cobra to be my pet so it could scare my sensei. I would teach a cat to be my teacher so I could play all day.
How can all these pets do those kind of things to human beings. It doesn’t make sense to me at the end. A kitten isn’t as tall as a human being, so how can a kitten kick your head. You must train your puppy to be good. Where abouts did the hamster slam the human being?
Well spotted: We can advise someone (with an s) or we can give somebody advice (with a c). I don’t think the poem is meant to be taken seriously as you are right Lily-Grace, it is unrealistic and also the poet, Kenn Nesbitt, has a reputation for writing silly poems such as ‘I Bought A Pet Banana’ and ‘When Vegetables Are Angry’ (from his collection called ‘My Hippo Has the Hiccups’). ‘Slamming’ in Kung Fu means knocking somebody over; of course, this is not something a hamster would actually be able to manage! Some great thoughts on this blog so far and I especially like the sound of cuddly lion cubs and wasp-catching Venus fly traps. Personally, I would like to teach my pet cats how to do the housework so I could come home to a beautifully clean and tidy house at the end of every day!
I would teach a polar bear to take me to the North Pole, so I could feel how cold it is. Also I would get a monkey to teach me how to climb high up trees, so I could see the view at that height. I would teach my pet catfish how to eat my plate of dinner, so I could eat pudding straight away. I would teach a gecko how to play Sky-landers with me, so he could win all the battles for me. Finally I would teach a dolphin to touch (flipper) type for me so I didn’t have to.
I would like a cat to dress in fancy clothes. I would like a dog to be a painter to paint my bedroom pink and spotted with Barbie dolls. I would like a gorilla to eat my food because I only like to drink. I would like a kitten to play with me and my friends because that kitten would like playing with my barbie dolls and me. I would like a pony to let me ride on it.
I would teach a monkey to swim so if I get on him it will be fun to ride. I would teach an elephant to roar so it could scare away my sisters. I would teach a fly to turn big so I could ride on it. I would teach a pig to do kung fu so it could protect me. I would teach my dog to talk so when my sisters go on playdates I won’t get bored. p.s. and to scare my mummy and daddy!!
I would like to teach my birds to be teachers so I could learn how to fly. I would teach a cat to swim so it could go on a diving board. I would teach my rats how to do handstands so everything is upside down. I would teach my dog how to talk so we could have a nice chat and I would teach a turtle to run so it could win all the races.
I want to teach a gorilla to drive a car because it would be funny. I want to teach a giraffe to tidy up my bedroom because he could reach the highest shelves. I would like to teach a monkey to make a marble run because he will be good at it. I would like to teach a dog to let me ride him so he could take me to school. I would like to teach a cat to dance because I could dance with her!
I would teach my puppy to paint my nails because then she could do it every day. I would also like to teach my puppy to swim all the way to the end of the river because at the moment she can only swim in the shallow bit and it would be fun if she swam lots. I would teach an octopus to plait my hair because it has lots of arms and could do lots and lots of plaits (my mummy only does two plaits). I would like to teach a gorilla to put my clothes on because I don’t like getting dressed in the morning. I would teach a baby panda to sleep in my bed because it could be my hot water bottle and snuggle and keep me warm all night.
I would like to teach a giraffe to carry me on its neck so I can reach the top of the trees. I wish my cat would eat my lettuce and I’d eat all the pudding. I would teach my guinea pigs to run very fast so they could win a race against a rabbit. I would teach an ostrich to swing us round and round on their long necks. I would teach a squirrel to fly so that it can talk to the birds and then it doesn’t have to wait for them to land in trees.
This poem made me laugh! I would like to teach my cat some tricks and stop him being lazy. I would like to teach a lion to give me a ride to school. I would like to teach a rabbit to do handstands. I would like a tiger to be my servant and talk to me.
I would teach my kitten to play with me. I also would teach a puppy to come to school with me because I could throw sticks for her to collect. I would teach my puppy to get its food and give it to me when we were going to school. I would also teach it to be quiet while I’m learning in class. I would teach my puppy and kitten to play quietly together and not fight and have a fun time while I’m having fun with my little brother.
I would teach a baby heron to fly with me on its back because it would be fun. I would teach a cat kung fu to impress me. I would like to teach a ferret to kick the rats because I’m scared of rats. I would teach a baby kitten to lurk around to scare me out in the dark. I would teach a panda to do a flip under water for 50 minutes because it would be impressive.
I would teach a boa constrictor to do gymnastics which would be very funny and then maybe he could teach me some tricks! I would teach a frog to do karate so he could hide in my pocket and whip out to defend me if I get in any trouble and also show me some cool moves. I would also teach a crocodile to swipe a sword so quickly and cut my hair right off as short as I wanted it so my mum wouldn’t take ages cutting it. I would teach a bat to shoot my new laser through the floor so he could swoop down so silently through the hole to the kitchen and get me secret treats to eat in the night. Last of all, I would really like to teach my dogs to do my homework for me and maybe they could even do the five sentence challenge too and take themselves for a walk!
I would like to teach a lion to take me to school on his back. And he would have to take me to football on Saturdays. I would let my lion sleep in my room. I would call him Zac. He would be the biggest pet.
