A Tibetan Mastiff dog is thought to have become the most expensive in the world after selling for £1.16million.
The Tibetan mastiff puppy sold at a luxury pet auction in eastern China to a 56-year-old property developer for 12million yuan.
The dogs, with distinctive leonine features, have become a status symbol of the country’s super-rich and are said to be lucky animals bringing health and security.

What is your reaction to the story?
Do you think you would like to own one of these dogs? Why/why not?
Happy writing Year 1 🙂
I would not like to own those dogs because I think that dogs should be free. I think the million pounds should have been spent on good things. The owner will be very rich if the dog has puppies. I would be very worried about losing the dog in the park. He might get dog-napped.
I really would love to have a puppy just like that except I don’t have a very big garden and I don’t have enough money to buy one. This dog looks so big that it would need a huge amount of space to run around in. I would love to make plaits and put ribbons in its hair. Every Saturday and Sunday I would bring it for long, long walks around the park. I hope my Mummy has got one of those dogs, with golden hair, for my birthday, but I don’t think so!!!
1) I could buy a house, a car and a swimming pool.
2) I am not going to get one because it is too BIG for my house.
3) I could buy 1000000 sweets with the money.
4) I would love to see the dog in real life.
5) I am not happy that the dogs are that many £.

I do not think that it is fair that a dog should be so expensive. I would like to snuggle one because they look so super snuggly. I
would like one for a pet and I would call him Azlan. I would take him to bed at night so that I could cuddle his thick fur, but he might fill up the whole bed. I would train him to dance and I would ride on his back and we would have a wonderful day.
It looks a bit like a big fat lion. I prefer little dogs like sausage dogs. Are they a rare
breed of dog? Does it eat rats or dog food? I bet it’s heavy like a huge boulder.
I think it would cost way more than 12 million yuan.
I think it would cost 16 million yuan!
The black dog has a collar.
They could play with each other.
They could knock the vase down.
Why does this dog have a giant mane? It must be very cold and snowy in Tibet where the dog comes from. I wonder if he lives in the Himalayas and would need lots of fur to keep warm. I would probably like a dog like this but I don’t have enough money. It seems pretty stupid to spend that much money on a dog and he could be spending it on something more precious or useful.
Eben, I bet you’re right that the mane and thick coat equip the dog for cold temperatures. My forest cat developed a scarily bushy mane and coat over winter because his ancestors would have lived in snowy forestland and would have needed a warm layer of protection! It’s terribly difficult to look after though and gets really knotty, so for that reason I think I wouldn’t choose one of these dogs – grooming would be too much hard work! What makes you think it should cost even MORE money, Jack?! Scarlett, I think Aslan is a perfect name as the dogs look lion-like and magical, as if they belong in Narnia! 🙂
I think it’s ridiculous to spend that much money on a dog, when you can get a nice dog from Battersea Dogs’ Home for free. I wouldn’t like to have one of these dogs because they are too big. The problem with having a big dog is that you have to buy a lot of food for them, which costs a lot of money. These dogs look quite fierce. They look like ENORMOUS cuddly toys.
The puppy was cold because it was snowing. I want a puppy to play with. I want to feed the puppy. I want to bath and walk the puppy.
4 sentences Tia but a lovely effort, if you can think of one more we’ll post it together this week! – Miss W
I think that one of those sorts of dogs with golden hair would look like Aslan from Narnia (Scarlett and I did a drama class of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe). l think that if I did buy one I wouldn’t be able to buy it enough food. I would love to have one of those sorts of dogs but I would also love to have two mixed mongrels and a dalmation. These three dogs, I’m sure, wouldn’t cost as much money as just one of the Tibetan mastiffs. If I had a Tibetan mastiff, I would always ask my downstairs neighbour, who has a very big garden, to let it run around in his garden, when it isn’t my Tibetan mastiff’s walk time.
I wish I had one of these dogs because I think they are so cute and cuddly, it could be one giant pillow in my bed! I have a really cute puppy already, well she’s 1 year old now but I think she’s still a puppy. She’s also furry, soft and cuddly and I love to play and snuggle with her. I would like to walk a Tibetan Mastiff puppy and play with it and it would love to play with Iris. Iris is only small so the Tibetan Mastiff would soon be bigger than her.
The dogs are cute. They might be cold out there. There have lots of room to run about. I wish I had one as a pet. They are really strong and big. They big furry coats. I think they could break a fence. I would like to met those dogs.
I don’t think it brings health. It just carries germs.
Yes, I would like to have one. I would sell it for a house. It would be fun to play with it.
1) I wish the price was lower like £5.
2) I wish I had one.
3) £1.16 m is too much.
4) He shood giv his sbere mune too the por.
5) I cold get one of them.

It’s a lot of money to pay for a pet, this money can help lots of poor people instead who can get our help. It’s not fair one dog has so much money spent on it when we can help many many many many people & pets instead of one. I can’t have a dog because of my allergies. This dog can keep everyone warm as it’s fluffy. If you have this dog you might not want to take it out incase you lose it, it’s expensive.
If I had one I would not let it sleep with me. I would let it run around the garden sometimes. I would try to win the lotto so I could buy a dog. I would not let it go next to a cat. I would let it hold my bag.
I wouldn’t like to own a dog like that. I think they cost far too much money, which could be spent on lots of other things like holidays, clothes, handbags and maybe a new car. A dog like that one would also take a lot of looking after. You would have to brush its coat every day. You would have to take it for long walks.
I would not want one of those dogs because they don’t look friendly to me. I don’t think many people would buy them because they are so expensive and I would rather have a lego tower instead. If I had a dog I would have a chihuahua and I would keep it with me always. If I had that dog I would give it to somebody else who really wanted it. It would be squashy to keep it in a small house.
I would want to get one of them.
But I don’t think it should be that expensive.
Will they live forever?
What if they don’t bring good luck, can the owner get his money back?
Will they be caged up because they are expensive and the owner doesn’t want them to be stolen?
Bruno is a puppy but these puppies are so much bigger. Bruno was expensive but nothing compared to the cost of these puppies. They have a mane like a lion. I would like one of those dogs but I think it would be a lot of hard work looking after them. I hope the owners look after them well.
The owner of these dogs must have fed them a lot if they’re this big [actually they’re not big just they have thick fur]. I would not want one of these dogs because they would be too giant to fit in my house. They look like lions because it looks like they have a mane. Do they have big teeth and are they fierce? Do you have to cut their claws every day?
