Your 100 Word Challenge this week is to write 100 words – no more, no less – based on the prompt – Without a Splash.
Well done to everyone who tried out for the swimming gala on Thursday with Coach Martin. Will this inspire your prompt? Or perhaps these words make you think of a mysterious short story, or an alliterative poem?
I can’t wait to read them!
Miss T
Brother had died, but that can’t stop me. I stood at the edge, glaring down. Tiny waves over lapped each over, “Violet! Come back here now. You know that your not allowed to swim.” I knew that, it was this stupid rule in our family. Brother had died, but that can’t stop me. But still I don’t listen she hates me for that. Swimming is something that takes all my worries of my heavy mind. “Violet! What did I just say?” Come back here now, I heard it but ignored her. Slowly I put my goggles on. 1 … 2 … 3 … I was in. I heard mother’s faint cries in the distance, “Your own brother, my son died doing that! Come back here now.” I didn’t. Brother died, but that can’t stop me.
Sorry I got carried away! A bit over 100 words. Hope you like it 🙂
I ran and ran until my feet couldn’t carry me anymore. I sped through the woods and towards the river, not thinking at all where to go. I couldn’t swim, I had no guts to get into that freezing cold water, what am I going to do. He was gaining, I had to do something so I jumped into the River and attempted to swim. It really didn’t work out, I tried to get back to the surface to breathe and when I finally did, I realised how fast I had gone. That was when I knew I had to be in a gala.
We, the class I mean, had hatched an amazing plan. It went like this. On Friday morning we would all hide around the room with the small water pistols that Oliver had brought in. Our class teacher, Mr Penill, will then be pelted with water and our class will have completed the most devious prank yet. Mr Penill is the most timid person in the world. He is to afraid to give out detentions, or to even shout at us, and he is definitely not up to telling the head anything but good news, which makes him the perfect target.
But on the day of the prank it wasn’t Mr Penill who got wet, but the head, Mrs Marker. She walked into class carrying the unfortunate news that Mr Penill had been taking ill. The head was livid. Let’s just say that the plan had definitely not gone down with a splash, in fact the total opposite.
Ahhh! I can never get 100 words!
Without a splash…
It was time. The announcer called us out of the changing room. We exchanged terse good lucks, before setting our minds on the task ahead. I strode into the hall, displaying a confidence I did not feel, and took my place. The water was cool, but not unpleasantly so. The announcer reminded us once again what was at stake. The world record. Suddenly, a heavy silence decended upon the crowd. Then, the quiet was shattered by the crack of the starting gun, and the defening roars of the crowd. Then the race was over. I had won!
It was the place everyone had warned me about, the place in all the horror stories… the lake. It was unnaturally still, not a single movement in the water. No human had every made it out of the lake alive. There were weeping willows but, facing the wrong way, as if they were trying to get away from the lake. Suddenly a colossal, murky, disgusting creature rose out of the water, and let out an ear piercing roar. Then, it looked at me with large, regretful eyes, and swallowed me whole! We then slipped under the water, without a splash.
We were sight seeing in Croatia. All of a sudden there was a bump on the boat and we all thought it was sharks. But after a few seconds later we saw an elegant silhouette of a dolphin! But there wasn’t just one, two, three, four or five even!!! They gracefully jumped in and out of the blue seawater, putting on a show. They dived back into the water, jumped out and with one last spiraling spin they disappeared into the opaque water. Bump bump. They hit the boat once more as they descended into the magical underwater world.
I couldn’t help it I had to. so , i jumped , right in to the water . and there I was, in a completely separate world. Everything was new and strange , when your there its like magic , you cant quite explain it. The only way to get in is just by jumping straight in the water, don’t be scared , just use a bit of imagination . Every little thing is just made by one droplet. Its so beautiful , the water really is another dimension. It can be anything you want it to be , you feel like a mermaid surrounded by the magic of the sea . I am not sure if you quiet understand, but the water is really like a magical dimension.
It started off as a normal day. I woke up, had my breakfast and I was ready to go. As I made my way down to the coast, I checked the weather. RAIN. Again? Every day for the past month it had been rain, and this was supposed to be summer! But my mood was brightened as I looked out to sea. The sun was glinting on the waves so that they looked like molten gold. It was beautiful.
I had been fishing for about an hour before things got a little mysterious. One moment I was basking in the sun, the next, I had been pulled under, without a splash.
Without a splash I swam across the ice-cold pool. Without a splash I dived into the bottom of the blue. Without a splash I zipped through the gala river. The cheers were the only thing I heard beside the light splashes lapping on my ears. The wall was the only thing in my sight. It was as if I was a falcon dashing to my prey. Was I going to win? No one knew. It was all about speed, determination and stamina. I dived without a splash and began to race, my heart pulsing in the rate of the splashes.
Without a splash as i entered the water shaking with fear.11 The furious rapids pushing towards me.17 One breath that’s all i needed at least that was what i thought.30 I dived in the ten foot deep lagoon, they shouted at me telling me to hurry up, Just do it they screamed!52 I wondered about the worst and then I breathed.61 My arms breaking the force of the rapids.69 Bubbles bulging through my nose, Still no breaths.77 my legs kicking harder then ever, I was a bolt in the water
.90 Then it was too much i ascended without a breath! 100
