This week we have written a class poem based on the story of the Windmill Farmer. Over half term can you write your own poem? It can be any type of poem – it can rhyme or be free verse – it’s up to you…it just has to be 100 words! (So no haikus!)
If you want to watch the video again then here is the link:
With his heart and soul, he plants it in the ground,
He waters the seed being careful it doesn’t drown,
Time passes as the seeds grow,
They have grown high, and the farmer is down below,
Wind turns the blades round and round,
Whoosh a faint spinning sound,
Soon the sky darkens a shade of grey,
A storm is brewing and is on its way,
Plants are ripped of the soil,
Ruining the farmers long tedious toil,
A layer of snow covers the land,
A small seedling, a strand,
The farmer jumps for joy as the windmills have grown back!
The Windmill Farmer
Calm winds blew over the hills,
He turned windmill seedling,
It was like his happiness spreading,
he chose between life and death.
Windmills turning as fast as lightning,
The wind wrapped around the place like a hurricane,
It was like the rain preferred to be nowhere else but here.
The place was silent with his sorrow,
Crack, new life started to transfer it self out of the ice,
Breaking his heart with joy.
Spring came and windmills came to,
Happiness lasted.
The Windmill farmer caught a seed,
And planted it with love and care,
The seedlings grew until they were towering,
One day a big storm hit,
And smashed up all the windmills,
Sad and heart-broken,
The farmer cried and felt like he had lost his children,
Winter came,
Ice covered the lands,
And if you looked,
You could see tiny seedlings regrowing,
The frost melts away,
Leaving only puddles of cold water,
Its clear that springs coming,
But will he remember his past with sadness?
As the farmer steps out in the wild,
He sees windmills,
And dances with happiness.
The windmill farmer has many windmill seeds
He puts them in the ground with everything it needs
They grow turning into windmills
And growing up hill
They grow larger and larger
Bigger and bigger
A storm blows in
They fall into each other
Poor farmer,he has nothing to grow
All his windmills gone
Snow starts to fall
And the farmer was sulking as he walked back inside
A while later, the farmer walks outside and a windmill seed flies into his hand
All the seeds fell on the ground and turned into windmills
The windmill farmer leaped in joy.
The Windmill Farmer
Lonely, in the middle of nowhere
An idea to sew below there
The seed of life grew to be
Beautiful as ever, I hope you agree
Danger, far and near
Shaking with devastating fear
Lightning struck, thunder growl
Fell bit by bit with a frightening howl
Time passed, dead as ever
A farmer in so much terror
The old man was solitaire
Strolled to his corner in such despair
But there was hope, for him at least
Because his windmill, grew in peace
So that’s the story of the windmill farmer
As told by me from Eleanor Palmer
Grasping a seedling, he gently blows it’s blades,
He sows the seeds, planting his hope with it,
His love gushes from the spout of his can,
He joyously repositions one of his windmills,
Wind starts to flurry,
The farmer starts to smile until the wind increases,
His hat starts to fly away,
Crack,
He tries to hold the wood together,
It is no use,
One by one, the windmills fly away,
His face drops,
Winter passes and soon it is spring,
The farmer comes outside and smiles at the sight he sees,
Hundreds of Windmills, their blades blowing in the wind,
A farmer planted some seeds
And they spun with the breeze
He cared for them like they where his young
So they grew to the sun
Then a storm came
And it hurled down with rain
The windmills came down one by one
And so they never spun
Winter came strong and bold
The windmill farmer was sad and cold
But seeds lived on
And grew tall and strong
So when the windmill farmer came out for spring
He heard the windmills sing
He danced with joy for all to see
Because he was as happy as you can be
When the wind blew through the fields,
In the deep damp dawn the farmer planted his seedlings,
Noises filled the air as the windmills turned and turned and turned.
Darkness suffocated the air as the storm brewed,
Moving violently, the blades circled the air.
In his body, his heart drooped down losing all the hope
Loneliness filled his soul with sorrow,
Locked up in his home, left alone.
Morning came and he realised winter had gone,
A bright light shined in his eyes,
New windmills had grown overnight,
His dance filled the air,
Making all the bad thoughts drift away.
Windmill
The farmer planted his fragile seeds,
And let them grow very big indeed,
They grew and grew , some people said ‘it couldn’t be true!’,
They spun and spun in the morning sun.
But one rainy day when the wind blew this way,
The windmills propellers screeched and squirmed,
The windmills stem creaked and groaned.
The wind howled, and the thunder growled rain splattered down down down.
Silently, solemnly snow settled down,
The old man walked out with a frown.
Little by little one by one, little seedlings from spring came round, soon the world was full with joy!
The End!
The windmill farmer,
slowly sowed the seeds
deep in the ground
one by one, metre by metre,
the windmill famer sowed
his windmills
in the ground
week by week, litre by litre,
the windmill famer watered
his windmills
to full height
cloud after cloud, drop by drop
a terrible storm rolled in
filling the sky
with darkness
gust after gust, tug after tug
windmills savaged
uprooted
scattered, shattered
flake by flake, degree by degree
the ice came
the windmill famer shivered
missing his mature windmills
drop by drop, dot by dot
ice melts, colour returns
windmill buds emerge
joy renewed.
There was a farmer standing on his farm,
He layered the soil to sow some seeds,
He pinched the windmill seeds, is was so fragile,
They gave the farmer joy, they grew with love,
A murder of crows brang darckness to the sky,
The wind blew the windmills back and forth,
One snapped after the other until there was any left,
He walked back into his house with sorrow,
Days passed, stems started to shoot out,
When the snow melted, the farmer came out,
He was dancing with joy,
Happiness had been spreaded,
He had a massive abundance of windmills.
