In the run up to world war 2, a lot of important events happened such as: Hitler becoming the Fuhrer of Germany to America calling in their debts which started the German depression. Both of these events helped start the war but, one of the main reasons happened 20 years before, the Treaty Of Versailles. “Who’s that, Daddy?” I point to a poster of a scary-looking man. My father, Otto Wels, is the chairman of the German Social Democratic Party, and everyone hopes he will win the election, which is very soon. He follows my gaze and shudders involuntarily. “He’s called Adolf Hitler; he’s an evil man and the leader of our main opposition. Chaos will break out if the people vote for him.”

Then we heard it, a depressed voice sounding like someone who had had all their happiness sucked out of them and replaced with a looming ominous depression. That voice would stick with me for my whole life, this was the official announcement of war. “Yes Sir!” replied the Sergeant hurriedly. How he wished he had never volunteered to take this place…
Meanwhile, in his room, Adolf Hitler was thinking. He sat down at his desk, and smiled. The pencil began to attack the page…
In the run up to world war two, lots around the world was changing, the change of a decade, an American president, and a huge shift in the global balance of power, but through all of this, Germany had the roughest time out of anyone. The wall street crash, had affected everyone, but Germany most of all, just starting to crawl back from losing over £307,000,000,000 from reparations forced by the treaty of Versailles. And as what was happening to Germany became apparent to the German population- and with Nazi party propaganda ever present- it seemed like an obvious decision…
I found Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Catch 22 and the silver sword in my house. And I am reading the silver sword at the moment
