This week’s 100 Word Challenge is inspired by our learning about The Battle of Britain and Churchill’s famous tribute to ‘The Few’ pilots who fought bravely that summer in the skies above England.
I can’t wait to read them and share them in class!
Miss T
I was chasing the enemy and i tried to shoot him and he dodged it so i shot him again and I got my target. I dropped the bomb and destroyed the building. I killed a person then my friend came then i saw a plane THAT killed my friend and he tried to shoot me then i dodged it the i shoot him then he died when i saw my friend died on the city then i was sad .
I didn’t have a single scratch on my body, this would be my first time in the air. I was just sitting in the garage when the commander came up to me and said, “It’s your time to fly.” I was ecstatic; I got on the runway and started sprinting, picking up speed I leapt into the air, my engine revving, my excitement growing. As soon as we rose above the clouds a Messerschmitt started shooting, I hadn’t got into position, I wasn’t focused. I was hit. I started spiralling down; that was the end of one of the few.
Dearest Mother June 1940
Today I received a message from the commander. Tomorrow is shall sit in the spitfire, making our new Prime Minster proud and saving Britain from more damage. I shall be known as the brave Few. Please do not worry about me. I must do my bit for my country and if it is God’s will for me to end my life than so be it.
I have watched so many fall before me and I have cheered when spitfires landed safely.
Now talk longer I shall not, please write back dearest Mother.
Love you lots Jack
Dear Diary,
Today was the worst day so far. All my mates are pinging down like flies. The “Few” are really gaining on us. I can’t help wanting to stop but I must make Hitler and Germany proud. The smoke is over whelming us and my blood pressure is too high. Every day, I die a little more. So much blood, so much death, so much hate. The English spits are way better than ours, (sometimes I wish I was English). The food here is low and tastes disgusting. Hans got food poisoning and died yesterday. Please help.
Goodnight Diary.
The few they were called. Why? Nobody really knows. Winston has his reasons. Some say it’s because of the few, that most of us are alive now. Some say it’s because of the few that our nation is still standing. Some said that the few were the most brave, goodhearted people of their time. What do you say? What do you think about “ the few”? That is a rhetorical question if you didn’t figure that out. Back onto our first ponder, people tend to believe that the reason they were the few was because there was only a few.
THE FEW
“””””””””””
Once, many rings ago, the humans fought. I should probably mention that I am an oak tree. Back then I was a small sapling. A novice in the way of humans. I was small enough to avoid the smoke seeds, but only just. I was lucky I survived. Many others -humans and trees alike – didn’t make it. That ruling man – Winston Birchill? – was what pulled my island through. His speeches were so inspiring! I heard them through the voice mover… w-i-r-e-l-e-s-p? ‘Never was so much owed by so many to so few.’ I never understood that. Who were the few?
The Few
We are the few
We ride alone
Through cloudy skies
Away from home
Striking fast
And without warning
Losing comrades
No time for mourning
Flying high
And fighting low
Through wind and hail
Sleet and snow
Battles lasting
Throughout the day
The Devils fighters
They will pay
Acrid smoke
A burst of flame
Enemy on the horizon
Taking aim
David Jenkins
Richard Jones
Never again
To see the green hills of home
Fighters muster
Energy depleted
Heading home
Mission completed
The Nazis beaten
Returned, the valiant crew
Never was so much owed by so many
To so few
Dear Wife,
I am writing to tell you about my past few days being with the RAF. It’s been quite challenging so far. Do you remember Keneth? Well… yesterday he was shot down by one of the Luftwaffe’s. It breaks one’s heart to think what he must have gone through in his last moments. Commander says we’ve been doing very well, but every day at least a few of our boys don’t return. Any way, enough about me, how have you been? Are you coping alright? How do you fill your days?
Please write back soon,
Your loving husband,
Paul
‘The Few’ were the RAF soldiers who fought in the Battle Of Britain ????????.’The Few’ was a quote from Winston Churchill, the English Prime Minister at the time.Churchill said,”Never in the field of human conflict, was so much owed by so many to so few.” This battle took place over the English Channel, this fight lasted around four months, it started on the tenth of July,1940 and finished on the 31st of October 1940.This was a time where lots of people died, the average age of an RAF pilot was only 20!!!!!!!!
I remember when my husband left that summer. He packed his bags and kissed me goodbye at the train station and before I new it he was whisked away from me. He wrote me letters every other day and , surprisingly , all of them were very amusing and interesting . But one day he sent me a letter that was very different from the others.
To my dear Martha,
I miss you very much and so many tretorus things have happened these past few days. One of my closet friends Jonathan, well his plane got shot down in to the sea, well you can probably guess what happened . The captain is more stressed then ever and the weather is heavy. Oh how I do wish I was home.
Best wishes
Charles
I will never forget that letter
Sorr I got carried away! 🙂
