100-word challenge prompt in the shadows
By Tom D Williams
It was late that night when Tom and his teammates agreed that they were going to give it their all the next day in the race. The next day team SKY were the first to the start line. It was 5 minutes to go 4,3,2,1 READY SET GO we were off. Team Garmin were racing for a head start and they got one we were more the a mile away the whole way it was 5 km to go, that is when I sprinted off the crowd went wild I was a meter away we were in their shadow then we overtook we had won the TOUR DE FRANCE.
I was walking through Fudberry forest. The forest for only the most experienced navigators. I thought I was experienced. I was wrong.
The sharp, icy mist draped from the trees and clung to the air. The dead leaves floated lifelessly from their branches to the sodden ground. After walking halfway through the walk, a sense of disaster dawned on me.
I walked around and shouted for help until my lungs burned and my dry mouth cut my throat. Everything was unrecognisable. The same wet ground. The same black, cold trees.
I spotted a helicopter. I screamed but it didn’t hear me. It just sped all the way across my field of vision. I was lost.
The understory of a rainforest lies between the forest floor and the canopy. In the understory of a rainforest it is hot, damp and the air is still. In it grow a mess of shrub, woody plants and young trees, here they have to live with shadow because of the tall trees blocking out the sunlight meaning only about 5% of the sunlight shining on the rainforest canopy reaches the understory.
In the understory live a vast array of birds, snakes and lizards they are preyed on by predators like leopards, jaguars and boa constrictors in an entirely different ecosystem.
At the enormous, abandoned manor on the outskirts of dark London, the ghost was seen. An old thespian living in the gigantic house had reported it. It wasn’t a ghost in physical form; just a shadow. It roamed the halls doggedly, scaring anyone looking its way. But, luckily know one wanted to enter the manor, as it seemed unmistakably haunted. But a man wanted to live in the house, so he explored it, just to find a shadow. It just stayed still. The man took a picture, and ran down to the news office. He knew the shadows were rising…
I stood in the forest. There were no signs of life. Just the silence of the trees kept me company. Suddenly, a branch snapped! Then another and another and another! Twigs snapping everywhere. Then I felt it. The cold breathing on the back of my neck. I looked and saw nothing but dead trees. The shadows were alive! I tried to scream but no noise emerged from my blackening lips. I looked at my hands and saw them turn to dust! Again I screamed but nothing emerged as my body sunk into mist. Now I’m the shadow, I’m the predator.
I was deep inside the woods, the beautiful surroundings made me feel like home, but I wasn’t. In the shadows I saw myself…… with one leg. I was lucky I survived, but what happened in the war made me truly traumatized. So many of my beloved friends were with me, even at the bad times they would always make me smile. One minute when I wasn’t looking, they were shot by the Nazis. They died right in front of me, and here I am in the lovely woods remembering what nice times we had. I am very lucky to be alive even with one leg.
In the shadows of the himalayan mountains is the home to one of the tallest mountains on land, Mount Everest, which was formed by the tectonic plates of Tibet .It’s also known as Chomolungma , and is an astonishing 8,848 meters above sea level ; But what’s also amazing about the Himalayas is mount Everest’s nabours Lhotse , Nuptse are 8,516 meters and 7,855 .
The first ever recorded efforts of reaching Everest summit where by British . The reconnaissance expedition by the British in 1921 reached 7,000 meters and in 1922 7 mountaineers took the north ridge route and climbed 8,320 meters that was the first time humans had climbed beyond 8,000 meters but the triumph ceased when they all died by an avalanche .
A cloak for sanity to sheath like sand
drowning deep beneath
Ended up meeting the same fate that once tried to pull you over
against that vortex of pure hate filled the city,
scorching ember I do want to break free,
but how?
these cuffs bound for eternity
A formidable enemy cast by your very own shadow
being chased away in the down low
the question is, will you allow?
why should we dwell on the shadows of the past?
the memories of our love have gone, been forgotten so fast.
Now I lie here wondering if I’ll ever be the same?
as I sit here and dwell of my loss in life’s game.
In the big house
There are places to see
There is stuff to play
There are things to see
But the only thing that no one wants to see or play, it is darker than ever, it scars your heart forever. The blackness creeps you out until you turn the shinning bright light on.
You cannot touch it or it will go. If you want it to go, it won’t, if you want it to stay, it will go. Sometimes it is a figure or an object.
Do you know what it is?
It is the biggest darkest shadow EVER!!!
“Once upon a time, in the town of Newsbie, there was a cat called Leroy. Now Leroy was a vicious ginger cat who swiped anybody who came near. None of the people in Newsbie liked Leroy. The main reason was because he always lurked in the shadows and when you got near, without realizing, he clawed at you and left marks all over your face. Sometimes Leroy liked the shadows a little too much and one warm midsummer’s day when he was hiding behind the wheel of a bus, the driver saw him and immediately started driving, spattering guts everywere.” said old Grandma Higs. “Now night children. Go to bed!”
Darkness fills the room, sending shivers down my spine. Shivers that get bigger by the second, a beast sucking all hope from my body. It is a terror that consumes me and claims me for its own. An uncontrollable monster lurking inside just waiting to be awakened. Sweat beads on my forehead, collecting, before dripping down my brow.Something moves; it takes a step towards me a single eye peering through the gloom. I scream. My worst nightmare coming to life in front of me, but it’s too late. It came from the shadows, and now it’s taking me back with it.

In the shadow
Deep in the forest
Lies a witches hut
She laughs and she cackles
Little children she tackles
All to make her Sunday lunch
In the shadow
Deep in the forest
Lies a witches hut
The cats all groan
And the children they moan
When they see the witch’s pot
In the shadow
Deep in the forest
Lies a witches hut
The children they scream
“Oh help, don’t be mean!”
But the witch just throws them in
In the shadow
Deep in the forest
Lies a witches hut
BEWARE don’t come near
Or your fate will end here!
