I was holding my gun up, aiming at the gazelle. I was the predator. I crept out of my hide. The gazelle stopped grazing the grass and ran off. Then I heard another sound in the bush. It was too heavy for a deer. Too light for a predator like a leapord. I caught a glimpse of a metal barrel. I bolted away from the thing. Bullets whizzed past my ear as I ran. The sky darkened and grey clouds rolled over it. I thought of the gazelle that I was hunting a minute ago. I was hunting and now I was being hunted.
I heard a sound and raised my gun! Nothing there. You could never be too sure where it was. My saying is, if you hear a sound then it’s time to hide, otherwise the thing would get you. I know what this thing is capable of. I watched it eat my friend. Suddenly there was another sound and a rumbling in the vents. It was here. I dashed into a locker and peered out. A black creature with green acid dripping out of its mouth. It hissed and lunged at the locker. There was an eerie silence.
Many non-human animals are hunted all across the world. Some of them are hunted for their meat and hide by tribes that are only using it for there own food and warmth and do not sell any for profit. Some people hunt to make profit from selling there meat, hide, teeth, bones and horns. While most hunting is legal hunting called poaching it means that the hunting is illegal and against the law, this may include hunting in a reserve or hunting a protected animal. A few people hunt for sport and don’t get money or food form hunting.
“That was close; one of the killers almost saw me. If he did, he or they would have killed us.”
“Yeah, and fed us to their dogs. Did you find any more survivors?”
“No, but I can feel another type of energy in the area, anyway is it your bed time.”
“No, Yes, uh do I have to go bed.”
“Yes and if you do I will let you come tomorrow.”
“Wake up! Wake up! You said I could come.”
“Ok.”
“SHHH, they could be anywhere, we don’t want to attract any thing…”
“AAAAAAH the killers! No don’t take him!”
It was the day of the hunt, I was gearing up; I took my shotgun and some shells. I set out to the woods keeping low and out of sight; looking for my kill and imagining the rich venison melting in my mouth. I shook my head, clearing my mind and focusing on one thing; finding the target. “Snap!” a twig broke to my left. I readied my gun, took my aim and shot four buck shots which pierced my game’s skin. I walked over to my kill to find there was no deer. But a young boy.
The tiger bared its red oozing teeth at her companions. It was her kill, why should she share it? The tigers bared their teeth back but they knew that they were no match for Mandrick. They gradually stalked away, growling threateningly at Mandrick. The great scar-stricken Siberian tiger ignored them as she let her great jaw slowly sink into the wildebeast’s stomach and clenched the searing hunger within her own sleek vulnerable belly. Once Mandrick had finished, she began to feel drowsy. She allowed herself a few seconds of blissful stretches on her back…
It was long enough. The other tigers pounced on Mandrick, gaining another meal for their own starving stomachs in one swift movement.
1.Japanese ‘drive hunts’ murder nearly 20,000 dolphins, porpoises and small whales every year. While Taiji may be the most notorious of the hunts that take place in Japan, many other killing operations are equally cruel.
2. Dolphin hunts take place both to capture live dolphins for marine parks and aquariums and to kill dolphins for their meat. Conservationists work to protect endangered and hunted species like dolphins.
3. In the cove at Taiji in Japan, some of the dolphins rounded up are selected for use in dolphin shows but many die of shock before they make it to waiting transport.
Did you know that tigers are endangered? 100 years ago there were 100,000 tigers but now there are only 3200 left!!! This is because they’re hunted by poachers. The body parts used are: skin, bones, teeth and claws, which are used for traditional Asian medicine. Tiger parts have been used for a millennium. Despite a Chinese ban for trading tiger parts in 1993, people still believe that they are powerful today. Some people believe that claws, teeth and whiskers bring luck and protection. Others value the fur as a way of showing off how rich and fancy they are.
It was a bright, warm day and the sun’s rays were shining down on Sulbin the hunter’s frayed skin. His crew were nervously waiting, sitting on the splintered seats of the battered boat. Then one of the crew saw a big bubble creep up to pop on the surface. Then suddenly the old boat flew high into the sky and then crashed down where the bloodthirsty shark was waiting for them to slip out. All but one of the hunters fell out to be eaten. This was Sulbin, the surviving hunter. The shark swam off swiftly, happy about his kills.

Whale hunters would hunt and kill many of the large whales and various industries would use the whale various body parts to make a variety of goods such as transmission oil, candle wax, cooking margarine, jewelry which was made from whale bone, toys (such as chess pieces), work and hunting tools (made from the bone and ivory of certain species) and whale meat (which is now considered a delicacy in some countries).
My camp mates and I sprinted across the floor of the jungle, not daring to look back at the thing that was hunting us. It had demolished our camp coming out of nowhere, trampling our temporary homes and I knew after the thing had ripped open the tents it was going to do the same to us. I heard screams, crunches and “pops” as people’s skulls collapsed under the immense force of the jawed beast. I looked to my left and the beast was right there. I felt it pounce. I felt its jaws. I felt my heart stop beating.
Hunted is a word that has a negative feel to it overall. To me, it suggests someone or something is being chased or stalked and the intention is to capture that someone or something, which doesn’t sound like a positive outcome for them at all! For the hunter, catching your prey is the end result of your efforts but maybe there is excitement and pleasure in the act of hunting too? Hunting for food seems like a fair enough thing to do but hunting for sport seems cruel, barbaric. Chasing and killing just for the fun of it seems wrong.
