It was Friday at school. All the boys and girls were tempered and from the week that had been running. Especially one bully in particular. This boy was called John. We were playing football and he fouled me on purpose. At once I was on my feet and asking him why he did that. In return he punched me and we started a fight until the teacher came and told us to shake hands. Mine was friendly but his was as hard as steel and squeezing my fingers so I got the message that he wasn’t finished with me yet…
Wow! Powerful start to a story, Gabriel! I can tell you’ve been thinking about all the work we’ve been doing on anti-bullying. I hope this wouldn’t happen at EP!
Gabriel – I love your blogs, but there are too many John’s. John the mad scientist, John from the poor family and now John the Bully! If you do another one I think I will have to change my name………. John (Luc’s Dad)
I just do random names… They are not meant to be about you in particular. In fact, they are to do with no one in particular! I just choose names that come into my head like…Jack, Jake, Joe, James and John!
Handshake
People shake hands when they meet.
We shake hands if we meet.
Shaking hands is polite if we are meeting a new person.
It’s kind if someone shakes hands if they have helped you with something.
It’s always kind to shake someone’s hand if they have done something nice for you.
Handshakes are thousands of years old. The ancient Greeks did them. It may have started as a way of showing people you didn’t have a weapon in your hand.
French people, including children, shake hands and kiss each other on both cheeks as a greeting or when saying goodbye.
In Japan, people bow to each other rather than shake hands.
In Arab countries, men shake hands and embrace each other but they only shake hands with their right hands. This is because their left hand is thought to be unclean. They don’t shake hands with women because it’s considered obscene.
In this tale there was a boy called Jo. He was in year 7. He had just left primary school. He went out to play, he walked towards a group of boys. He said “Can I play a game with you?” They all looked. The leader said, “You’re from year 7, why would we want to play with you! We’re from year 10, go away.” He suddenly punched Jo, who went off crying. A teacher saw what had happened, he got them together, the bully had to say sorry to Jo and then they both shook hands to make up.
A golden handshake is a clause in an employment contract to offer a severance package when someone’s employer terminates their contract through firing; retirement, restructuring, voluntary resignation etc. This package can be made up of cash, equity, stocks and other benefits.
The term originated in Britain in the mid 1960’s and was first coined by Frederick Ellis.
Typically ‘golden handshakes’ are only offered to the high-ranking executives by major corporations such as banking; finance; insurance amongst others. Golden handshakes can often be valued at million of pounds. They are often given to offset the high risk in taking the job.
It was nil-nil Real Madrid vs Barcelona. It was a very tight game and all of a sudden Ronaldo ran on the left side of the pitch and crossed it in but the goalkeeper jumped and saved it. It was a goal kick and Victor Valdes booted it high in the air, a bit too high because it went over the stadium. Then the referee blew the whistle and all the players new it was going to be penalties. First Ronaldo scored, then Messi missed, then Bale scored and Neymar missed and Real Madrid had won. Then they all shook hands.
Drake woke up, memories of him robbing Barclay’s bank flooded back. He looked up, a man was looming over him with a broad smile on his face,”Hi Drake I’m doctor Jay.”
” where am I? ” Stammered Jake.
“You’re in a youth offenders center.”
Drake tried to take it all in with one deep breath, but blurted out “I didn’t rob Barclay’s bank” through floods of tears. Eventually the doctor decided to compromise with drake, he was free to leave if he did a month’s social work, three hours a day.
Drake shook hands with Dr Jay and left the building.
Daniel Hunter was a very careful man. He had CCTV cameras all over his house, a 32″ thick iron door, and fingerprint scanners as an extra precaution. This was because Daniel had the key to the earth. This key shut down the entire solar system. He was presently going to the presidents mansion to discuss security matters. As they shook hands, Daniel realized there was a slimy quality to the famous hand. He thought nothing of it at the time, but when he got home it dawned on him. He had been tricked.
And when Daniel realized that the key was missing, He remembered the presidents’ hand.

His fingerprint had been copied.
“Deal. When this guy is dead I’ll give you $100,000,000 then you can go back to Texas and enjoy your life.” Yan Markosa was 42. He had long brown hair with colourless eyes. He carried a black case which concealed a L115 sniper custom. He had arrived in a bulky black jeep, escorted by 4 men carrying Vector CRB subs. He was taken up 20 flights of stairs into a big gold painted room which had a case on the table. Meanwhile the real Yan Markosa, in the next building, aimed his rifle. As they shook hands, He fired.
Blimey Jimi… that’s such an exciting start to a thriller. Better written than lots in that genre! Are you sure you don’t want to be a screenwriter/director of thrillers and horrors! 🙂
The War
Once there was a war going on. The people were fighting in the war. People ran home and tried to get away from the war because it was so terrible, but it was no use, the sergeant called them back. Finally from the dark, dusty trenches someone emerged. He looked at all the fighting and came to the other trench to agree with the other army to stop the war. So one person from each army came right into the middle of the war grounds. They stood there and finally shook each other’s hands. The war was over.

Jack was so excited he almost wet himself. He slowly walked up to Beckham and shook his hand without running away. He had done it. He had conquered his biggest fear. But then he woke, noooooooo it was a dream.
Once there was a girl called Poppy that lived in Canada, Poppy loved to fish and hunt but most of all she liked to make cool handshakes with her best friend Molly. One day she was making a handshake with Molly and when they finished they went home to practice it when they had an idea; they could practice it lots and then show it as a performance at the school concert. They were fed up with older children winning the concert with the same old things –dancing and music. Time for something different be creative, practice and win.

I wonder if the handshake will evolve further in our country. Could high-fives be acceptable for business dealings in the future I wonder?!
A handshake is a thousand words
A friendly whisper, a leaving moan
A handshake is a million cares
Knowing you would meet me there
A handshake is a billion tears
Talking to those listening ears
A handshake is one wishful touch
That fills you up with friendship’s love
A handshake is a long lost friend
Staying with you till the end
A handshake is a mothers trust
Never leaving or gathering dust
A handshake is all you have left
When someone you love has reached their death
Handshakes can never be said
For their true meaning is in your head.
That’s beautiful Freya.
