River encounter
During the summer holidays I went with my family on a river adventure. As we rowed silently the trees bristled and waved as if they were saying hello. The sun was burning through the canopy, the rowing was hard, not jumping in the fresh water was hard! As we went through a meander we first heard a moo and suddenly came face-to-face with a herd of beautiful cows drinking in the middle of the river, only separated from us by an electrified fence. They all stared at us until we disappeared in the next river bend.
Did you know cats sleep 16-18 hours a day, read on to find out more about these extraordinary creatures.
The body
A cat has over a million nerves that send signals to the brain.
They have high quality senses almost better than humans.
The heart and lungs control movement and moments of high activity. A adult cat has thirty teeth called the incisors, canines, premolars and lastly the molars. They are roughly 4 months when they are an adult, and have all thirty teeth. A cat’s paw is extremely important, they use them for defence and to catch prey. Their kidney keeps the body stable and gets rid of waste. Cats are domestic animals.
Pandas are one of the worlds most endangered bears, due to their diet. They eat between 10 – 16 hours a day, but only two types of bamboo. Most bears hibernate during winter, however bamboo doesn’t give pandas enough energy to last for that long. Although pandas’ diet is made up of mostly bamboo, they will occasionally eat pumpkins, kidney beans, carrots, cabbages and peppers.
Pandas distinct black and white patches do two things, communication and camouflage. White fur helps them blend into snow and their black fur the shade. Unlike most animals, pandas have vertical slits for eyes – not horizontal.
Turtles are amazing creatures that live in the aquatic biome. Turtles don’t have much structure they have no limbs and no teeth, just a shell to protect them from predators. Because Turtles have no limbs, they have to use their arms to swim around in the water. However they can’t stay underwater forever, they have to get up after 40 minutes. But, they do have 2 lungs one in the shell and one in the centre of their body. New born turtles are carnivores while adults are omnivores. They have beaks and powerful jaws allowing them to eat with ease.
Horses are highly intelligent creatures and can live for 30 years. There are many different types of horses, including the miniature horse and a pony. Horses are often used for working, riding and sports. In the olden days people used horses for transportation. A horse’s diet includes mainly grass, but they also eat hay and silage. Horses eat little but often, but if they become overweight, they can catch a very painful foot disease. Horses normally live-in stables, which will need regular cleaning. Surprisingly, horses can sleep standing up. Horses have lightning fast reflects and have nearly 360-degree field vision.
Field mice, which are scientifically known as Apodemus sylvaticus, are a type of rodent which are commonly found in Europe or North-western Africa.
They usually live in fields or woodlands and stay close to sources of warmth such as houses. Often, they build their nests underground.
Surprisingly, field mice are solitary until winter when they form colonies. These nocturnal creatures move around 400 metres away from their home every night to collect food.
Typically, they eat seeds, fruits and nuts. As you may know, field mice have eyes on the sides of their head so they can spot potential predators.
Dogs… mans best friend. They are generally bred to become pets or guard dogs, they are a loving and compassionate companions.
Dogs have a range of diet requirements such as cooked chicken, raw meat and kibble. However, there are some stuff that can be poisonous such as grapes and chocolate because it has so much sugar and can could potentially kill the dog.
Depending on what dog you get, the behaviour can be bad or good if you give it the correct traning. For example, if you don’t train your dog often it will be reckless and the only thing it may know is how to sit. So that is why it is important to train your dog.
GUINEA PIGS
these wonderful creatures actually don’t come from Guinea. In fact, guinea pigs originate from the Andes region of South America. The ‘guinea’ in their name is a bit of a mystery. One theory is that they were first brought to Europe by Spanish explorers in the 1500s via Guinea in Africa, so people thought they came from there, or that it could be a corruption of ‘Guiana’, an area in South America.
They can break dance. Well, not quite, but when they are excited, guinea pigs can jump straight up and down, often turning 90° in mid-air.
Brown bears are often found in mountains and forests in North America, Asia, and Europe. They hibernate in spring and are omnivores, meaning the eat anything. Bears can live to 25 years and weigh up to 700 pounds (a male can weigh up to 1,700 pounds depending on the time of the year). If you watch a bear run, they can run 30 miles per hour. These fierce predators can grow from 5 to 8 feet.

My chosen animal is the goose.
Goose, an animal that is always honking at their friends. They boss around their friends and think they are the cleverest of the animals. Small ducks walk around and big bossy gooses scare them off. Honk after honk they are like a broken radio. But when people come towards them they flap their wings trying their best to scare us. They jump into the rivers plunging their heads into the water getting the weeds at the bottom to feed themselves. Greenies and algae cover their beaks as they try to get it off their beaks. Then they say honk!
