Your 100 Word Challenge this week is to write 100 words exactly (no more; no less) based on this prompt:
The bell rang
You might find this video about how church bells ring, interesting! Or the bells in your writing might be alarm bells, or something completely different!
The bell rang ; its sound piercing the night sky. Tom suddenly woke up. It was midnight then a screech roared through the pitch blackness and a shape shot across the sky. It was gone! Tom turned round to walk to his bed when a man with a mask like a pale face grabbed him with a rotting , fleshy hand and with the other swept his mask off with one swift movement to reveal a putrid smelling face with a jaw hanging down. Suddenly there were foot steps and then they were in a compact room. Tom was never seen again.
There was a little girl named Jess and she was 13. Her mum had gone out for the night. She was on a chair and she got really bored so she called her friend to come over and play. The door bell rang, Jess got up and went to open the door but there was no one was there. Then it rang again. There was a man and he was very old. “Who are you?” said Jess. Suddenly she disappeared. Her friend came over and rang the door bell ,the man came out and they were never seen again. That old man is still in that house!
Hear the sledges with the bells –
Silver bells!
What a world of merriment their melody foretells!
How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,
In the icy air of night!
While the stars that oversprinkle
All the heavens, seem to twinkle.
In the town square chiming the hour; all the bells they have a power.
Power to light up people’s faces. Power in lots of different places.
Bells, bells how they shine; bells, bells how they chime.
Bells, bells how they ring; bells, bells ding, dong, ding.
Bells signal end and beginning, bells bring relief and pain,
Bells are eternity again and again.
At Eleanor Palmer Primary School it was 1:25 and the whistle had just gone. That very second everyone on the football pitch had stopped, everyone on the 4 square pitches had stopped and everyone on the basketball pitch had stopped. I knew what was going to happen: everyone in the juniors was going to rampage to the drinking fountains and the toilets. So then I ran as fast as I could and when I looked behind I saw all the 6th years sprinting. Then I was there having a lovely drink but before you knew it the bell had rung.
I heard an alarm bell ringing. To my horror I saw guards swarming around me.
I was on a trip to a museum by myself.
I was walking into a wonderful portrait room when something caught my eye. It was a gleaming portrait of Henry VIII. I reached out to touch it but it came tumbling down and to my horror thousands of guards came rushing out to catch me, the thief. Black dots were growing bigger and bigger in my eyes. The alarm bells were ringing like an angry elephant stomps. Then blackness. The pure hatred of gloomy blackness.
I hear a noise saying get of bed, but I put my pillow on my head and carry on sleeping. Finally when I get out of bed I stretch and start walking. Before I know it I’ve eaten my breakfast and I’m getting dressed. Next it’s time to persuade mum to let me stay at home me. Unfortunately it never works, so I get my book bag and packed lunch ( my mum does) then go. I’m out of the house and eventually stop yawning. When I get to school Miss Frood loudly calls……. THE BELL HAS RUNG, GET TO CLASS!!!! And then I see my friends and I smile…!
Before you read this is more about a bell that didn’t ring.
Before my 9th birthday I was planning with Harry and Joey for then to bring in their alarm clocks (I don’t have one) since it was a sleep over party. On my 9th birthday party we played some games and watched a film and then set our alarm clocks to 12 o’clock’ then lied down on our beds and waited for them. We quickly started chatting then started to try to go to sleep I was the last one awake. It was so hot but eventually at about 11:30 I switched the alarm off and then finally managed to get to sleep.
The bell rang. I walked out of the school gate to find my sister. She was taking me to winter wonderland. It was a bit far but we didn’t mind. My mum came along to help. We got into the car and drove off. It was a 3 hour drive but I’m lucky I enjoy sleeping. When we reached the second traffic light I fell asleep. When I fell asleep I was dreaming about bells. Before I knew it we arrived. We went straight to the big wheel but once again I fell asleep and was dreaming about golden bells.
Once there was a holy bell. Everyone came to pray to the holy bell everyday. However, one day someone didn’t come, and when the bell rang out as usual in the morning, he was walking out of the city in the opposite direction. A dark ghostly figure appeared before him. The stranger looked up. He said: ‘I am the messenger of the holy bell and therefore you will be taken’. He waved his hand. The man felt a tingly feeling. Someone watching nearby saw him disintegrating and the man who didn’t pray was no more.
The fire alarm rang its treacherous rattle while screams erupted like an exploding volcano. Smoke raced into the room covering every nook and cranny I could hear the siren of the fire engine and fire-fighters getting their hoses ready. The fire alarm stopped ringing and the world around me had blackened I was dead.
I woke to an oxygen mask strapped onto my mouth and various tubes carrying blood back and forth my mum was there smiling but looking worried at the same time but I didn’t care, maybe I was in a life threatening position but I was alive!!!
The alarm bell went, and I whacked the snooze button. Now, there is something I should tell you: my family says I could sleep for England! The Red Arrows could fly past my bed, and I would not notice a thing! My brother could play the drums next to my ears, and he might as well be playing air guitar. However, for my birthday, I was given the world’s loudest alarm clock, with a bell like a fire alarm. It could wake the entire Post Code, or perhaps even the borough. However my absolute favourite feature is the snooze button!
It was the dead of night and Jason was asleep in a sleeping bag all alone. He was camping in an Alpine meadow with a wooden fence at one end. Suddenly he heard a bell ring nearby. He awoke, sat up and scrabbled around to look for a torch. What could it be? “A ghost” he thought. Although he didn’t really believe in ghosts he was suddenly really scared. He tried to turn the torch on but it did not work. What should he do? He carefully unzipped the tent door and looked out. There it was….a big, Swiss cow.

Gah! Spooky! I love the screech roaring through the blackness and the shape shooting… lovely dark imagery.

Beautifully wintry and festive Maddy. Well done!

The End
A church bell has many chimes
It uses them at many times
The happy sound of wedding bells ding
But the lonely sound of death knells ring
In the leaning tower at the top
The bells can start and they can stop
But on the muddy earthy land
The church bells cannot stand
A church bell has many chimes
It uses them at many times
The happy sound of wedding bells ding
But the lonely sound of death knells ring
On Christmas day the bells are dinging
The same time the carols are singing
In union they are all ringing.

You have done this twice in one week! And both times they were same Trinity!
